Sumlin Will be our Coach Next Year

If he beats LSU and there's no one worth hiring, I could see him getting one more chance. With all the young talent on the team being developed, I wouldn't be that upset about it either. I said months ago that this year would be a disaster, but that next year would be our real shot. Losing so much talent last year, no realistic Aggie should have had any expectations for this year.

Just trying to be realistic Sarge. This year was doomed before it started. And we are one Caper-Smith frickup away from being 5-0 right now.
Or 2 later snaps from being 5-0

If he beats Florida in the Swamp, this season starts to look pretty interesting.
I have been really down on the program (like most everybody else), but I still think the best thing is for Sumlin to succeed.

I seriously doubt it. I think there's a chance he gets fired at 8-4 and that's still looking like the best case for this year

Who should we hire? And tbh if he goes 8-4 with UF on the schedule at the swamp after we just lost so much talent, I call that exceeding realistic expectations for this year. He is setting the program up for real chances the next few years.

Someone who will actually instill toughness and discipline in a football team. There's people in our AD who get paid lots of money to make those decisions. But unless we start showing something we haven't this year it's time to stop passing the buck on Sumlin with the "let's see next year" shite. He is clearly never accomplishing anything at A&M

I think this is more based on emotion. If Sumllin finishes 8-4 after losing his starting QB in game 1, playing a shitload of freshman, and 2 of the 4 losses are to Bama and Auburn (likely Auburn will be a top 5 team when we play) there is certainly a case to be made that Sumlin should stick around.
In fact, the case against Sumlin gets very hard to make if he goes 8-4. I don't think Sumlin and his style will win the SECw in the near future and I don't like his general philosophy but that is a different point altogether. If Sumlin goes 8-4 he is probably staying.

Probably but I don't think it's a given. It all depends on how it happens. I agree he probably stays at 8-4. I also think that's the absolute best we could finish and we have yet to have those best scenarios play out since 2012 under him. We've typically lost games down the stretch that we shouldn't or don't expect to

I agree that 8-4 is absolute best we can finish. That does require us to beat Florida in the Swamp. This is probably where his fate is decided. I give us a 50/50 shot. Lose that game and we end up with probably 7 wins and he is likely gone.

Who should we hire? Give me a name. Not a paragraph of idealism.

Beat State, New Mexico, Ole Miss, and LSU. That's 8 wins with a loss to Florida.

So you can say he isn't proven or we can't get him? And I have to hire someone now, not when the season is over? That doesn't seem fair. I'll play anyways though
Make Petersen, Gundy and Petrino say no
Then the two lower profile P5 coaches who would probably say no though not as quickly as the three above

Whittingham
The two candidates who I think you could definitely get that I like a lot
Venables
Frank Wilson

I would like to see us go after Bronco Mendenhall. He would be my first choice. I also like Mark Richt.

I think we split with State and LSU. But you are correct, we could still get to 8 wins.

Wasn't trying to be a dick. I was just looking for names. Thanks for putting them out there.

I'd we could break the home losing streak to Auburn, I would be so happy

But it's their turn to win

I've seen this thrown around here a few times, but why "discipline"? I personally don't think we have a discipline problem.
