After taking another look at Mississippi State, they are way overrated. I honestly don't see us losing to them. The only two opponents of value they've played, they've been destroyed. The only thing they have going for them is they have taken care of business against the other three crappy teams they've played. And one of those teams lost to Troy.

I don't disagree. I'm not trying to drink any.

But let's see their schedule 5 games in:

Wins:
Charleston South - 49-0
La Tech - 57-21
LSU - 7-37

Losses:
Georgia - 3-31
Auburn - 10-49

They really haven't done anything. I'd still put them slightly above us because they've handled their noncon better than we have, but that game is at Kyle. I think we stand to win a close one.

He's not shorter than Tavon Austin (5'8) either.

Haha, that's fair. I think we should be able to get at least 8-9 wins given how poor SEC is but after watching the SC game nothing is 100%.

UCLA was arguably the biggest choke in CFB history, and it couldn't have happened without commensurately horrific coaching coming from Sumlin and Co. The clock management + play calling decisions that he and Mazzone made were so terrible that middle school coaches -- literally fricking middle school coaches -- know not to make them.

Sumlin could not demonstrate more clearly that his ceiling is well below championship level if he put up a "I will NEVER take a team to the CFB playoffs!" billboard in downtown CS. Why would you want to keep him? He's a CEO who's proven that he isn't very good at managing a team.

That said, it doesn't much matter. Arky and South Carolina aren't very good, and we struggled with both of them. So Auburn and Alabama are almost certainly losses, and I bet we'll lose at least 2 of @Ole Miss, @Florida, @LSU, and Miss State.

It’s still mind boggling how bad of a coaching job they did that night. And just as crazy how many threads I’ve seen on other boards after these last two wins about how good our clock management has been at the end of these games. As if sumlin needs to be praised because he finally figured out in year 6 how to start running clock when you’re ahead of the other team in the 4th quarter.

Another funny quote I’ve seen a couple of times is how worried and stressed he looks this year because he’s coaching for his job. Uh, dude should be coaching for his job every year and putting 110% into it, it’s why he’s getting paid a top 10 salary. It’s like he’s coasted up to this point and it just now starting to show some fire. Him yelling at the refs over one of the calls against SC is the most emotion I’ve ever seen him have on the sideline, aside from the piece of gum he always demolishes during the course of a game.

We just need the refs to continue making terrible calls. That's what caused the 12th man to light up. I was doing my share of yelling from the alumni side. Hopefully there were no children within earshot.

2 more years. He will get it and damnit he should. I don't want someone else coming in taking credit for what he's built. If he can't get it done in 2 more, he's done. But let him see this through.

Good lord. A coach doesn't need two presidential terms to demonstrate that he's decent

I don't 100% agree with your theory, but I do think after what happened to LSU and Texas post Mack we might be less ready to fire an 8 win coach.

I am not a Sumlin fan but honestly if you want to talk about a choke job that's fine. I do think it is grossly unfair to mention that the starting QB that got us the big lead got hurt.

I have all kinds of issues with the personnel decisions, clock management, play calling, etc... etc... but had Starkel not gotten hurt, Ags win that game big. At some point you guys that keep pointing back at UCLA ought to at least recognize this in your posts slamming Sumlin.

This is how it starts. The moral victories. The rationalizing, the stupid Liucci-esque excuse stream.

If A&M doesn't get to 9 wins, I'll be ready to replace Sumlin.

But the problem is- I also don't see a coach out there that is available and is a better choice than Sumlin.
