The 1972 Alabama lose (17-16) to Auburn was, IMO, the most devastating loss. Alabama was undefeated and headed for a national championship game, but Auburn blocked 2 punts and returned them both for TDs in the 4th quarter to win. The thing that made it so devastating was that Alabama was by far the superior team and Auburn couldn't have scored an offensive TD in 10 quarters off that Alabama defense. The kick-6 game was an evenly matched game, so that wasn't so bad.

If you want to use all meanings of the word "loss", Bear Bryant announcing that "Momma's Calling" after starting the season 9-0 in 1957.

If you're talking about in terms of a game, probably the 1975 Arkansas game.

1983 season opener vs Maryland. Admin decided to rectify the situation with a methodical 25 year rebuilding phase.

Auburn - 2006 Georgia?

2006 Arkansas was more "devastating" than UGA.

2005. In Death Valley John Vaughn was 1-6 in field goals. AU lost 20-17. Snapped AU's 12 conference game win streak.

That's right Bama fans. AU once had a field goal kicker not named Cade Foster that single handedly lost the game. AU had over 400 yards of offense. It hurt. It hurt bad.

2001 Tennessee was trbl for us. We likely won't that game and the sec if it doesn't get postponed.

ETA wed likely also play Miami for a Natty but I doubt we'd win that game. Game may have cost us Spurrier too but without that we may never get Meyer and out last 2 titles.

2014- Bama 25-MState 20

Win that game and we are in the playoff. At least I believe we would have beaten OM and would have beaten Missouri in the SEC Championship game.

Embarrassing losses
Maine, Auburn 3-2 in 2008 are at the top.

We all love Sherrill but forget we lost to teams like NE Louisiana and Troy during his tenure.
