One could argue that Rooker is putting together the best all around single season in the SEC in the modern era...

OK, now one may say, "Surely those stats are padded by non conference games". Well, check out his conference only stats. Remember, MLB scouts compare SEC weekend pitching talent to that of AA. Each weekend in the SEC, a batter will face a handful of guys that have either already been drafted in the top 5 rounds, or will be:
Brent Rooker's SEC only stats(through 15 games):
-Batting Average: (.415)
-Slugging Percentage: (1.038)
-On Base Percentage: (.522)
-OPS: (1.560)
-Hits: (22)
-Doubles: (7)
-Triples: (1)
-Home Runs: (8)
-RBI: (21)
-Runs Scored: (14)
-Total Bases: (55)
-Walks: (11)
For those of you that understand the above numbers, how incredibly absurd is a slugging percentage of 1.038 through 15 SEC games?? OPS? 1.560???? Get this, through 15 SEC games, 16 of his 22 hits have gone for extra bases! That's almost 4 total bases per SEC game, and over 2 runs accounted for. Per SEC game!
Now if only my Bravos will do the right thing and draft Brent Rooker with their 1st round pick. Nah... let's add another upside starting pitcher! sigh...

He's ok. Not really thread-worthy IMO

Where do those numbers fall historically?
I think we'll draft an OF this year but I'm guessing it'll be a toolsy HS kid like Beck or Adell.

Thanks for posting all that..really impressive and couldn't see anyone beating that at this point in SEC recent hx

He's not even leading the league in triples. He sucks
Posted on 4/17/17 at 4:09 pm to holdmydak
Seems like you need to be comparing him to Palmeiro in his best season.

We will trade you Mainieri for Cannizaro...

You guys are the ones that should appreciate it. He's probably worth ten wins for y'all so far. I'm jealous as hell because he'd be worth nearly that many more for us as well.

Tough question to answer for two of reasons.
1. can't project how many games he will play, aka, how far MSU will make it...
2. Completely different era of College Baseball with different balls, bats, and pitchers that are so much more advanced with their stuff compared to a SEC pitcher in the 70s-90s...
For comparison's sake, let's say Rooker plays in 65 games. Now I will project what his stats would be off his current stats, once again, not a perfect science.
Historically Rooker would fall(all-time SEC):
Home Runs:
t5. (28)
Batting Average:
15. (.432)
RBI:
7. (95)
Hits:
t14. (104)
Doubles:
2. (33)
Total Bases:
2. (225)
I can't find any records for slugging, OBP or OPS.

have not seen him play yet but what a year he's having! looking forward to the series w/ State. kinda.

There's only been one triple crown winner in SEC history and it Palmerio in '84. Home runs is the only thing in doubt - South Carolina didn't pitch to him and I feel like most of the rest of the league will follow suit. He will lead the league in RBI and BA.

quote:They did a comparison during yesterday's game with Brent and AJ Reed from Kentucky several years ago. Pretty similar numbers plus Reed was also their Friday ace. Not sure if that had any difference with his hitting.
Where do those numbers fall historically?

Solid year at the plate. But how is he in the field?

A lot better at first than anyone expected

Good enough to play 1st professionally or do you think he'll become a DH?

Those are fantastic numbers for the halfway point of the conference season. Without checking, he is probably ahead of Andrew Benintendi's stats in 2015 for the Hogs. Andrew almost single handed got the Hogs to Omaha that season and won the Golden Spikes Award.
But remember, there are many games left to be played. Keeping up that kind of pace will not be easy or likely.

quote:Hard to say. He is 6'4" and 220 so he is in the 1st Base size. He has made some really good plays but at times, you see his newness at the spot. Over his career at State, he was LF or RF. He is a great athlete but he might spend time in the Minors figuring out where he belongs. I think he is going to see a bunch of hard sliders low and out the rest of the season. He tends to struggle with those.

Hats off to the guy. If we had y'all's hitting or ya'll had our pitching MS would be a force.
