UTx blew $215,000,000 on bad land deal

Don't know if y'all saw it, because it's buried in a thread on OR with a different subject, but it recently came to light that McRaven personally authorized (so without BOR consent) the purchase of $215,000,000 of land in Houston on which to construct a UTx - Houston campus, only to discover - after purchasing it - that the property is polluted by an abandoned oilfield and a polymer plant that formerly occupied a portion of the site. UTx is now trying to sell this property (a state senator has called it a "dump") and has abandoned plans for a Houston campus.

So all of those kind words about UH were for nothing.
Sure he wasn't talking about the LHN?

Apparently the lip service they gave UH during expansion talk was a quid pro quo for UH not blowing up about the UTx attempt at establishing a Houston campus.
Now that expansion has turned out to be the joke WE all knew it was, folks want to look into the Admiral making a unilateral decision of this value, especially now that it looks like he paid $250,000,000 to buy a worthless Superfund site.
Who was the seller? A UT booster who had no other way to offload this dump? I have a feeling this is just the beginning of a sordid tale... get your popcorn ready, boys.

This needs to be the automatic response to any post by a sip on the rant.
Seriously, this should be the new SOP.

We spent $500,000,000 on a new stadium that is generating revenue.
They spent $250,000,000 on a polluted wasteland in the ghetto in an abortive attempt to start a Houston campus and now their Chancellor is likely going to be investigated by the Texas Senate Finance Committee to see why exactly he unilaterally went into this deal with UT Alumnus John Kirksey when the land is, per Senator John Whitmire, "environmentally unsound" and "unwanted by anyone else" - particularly since they officially aren't going to build anything on it now, making it a real estate investment in something they reportedly can't sell, to the immense and immediate benefit of a wealthy alumnus.

Uncle Tillman is a little upset about the whole "UH not getting invited to the XII."
I wonder if he told the UH folks, "I have this 'thing' I need to do before tu builds that campus." Lol

Funny, part of that land was owned by the company I work for.
Our former President bought it without much research only to later learn that it's basically a swamp when it rains. Every truck they tried to get in there would get stuck.
I wonder if texas will remove their president like we did.

That deal was terrible. It was the worst deal in UT's history. A&M could have negotiated a much better deal. We are amazing deal makers, one of the best if not the best deal makers in all of academia if not all of business. Our deals are fantastic - they are yuge. We could have gotten more land for less money. And the senators, don't get me started on that swamp of losers; they would be calling this land a "utopia" if A&M had done the deal and everyone would be better off. It's a disgrace how UT's administration has failed the public and misused funds. They should be in jail for their mess ups.
