I pointed it before, but I guess I have to point it out again..... Quoting the company's own friggin CEO for an explanation on why his company failed at something is idiotic. That's like asking a politician why his such and such program failed. Tarzan now see?

This is about the new Colonel impersonator campaign tanking and changing course anyway. Not how the CEO can spin something for the shitheads at a "New York Strategic Decisions Conference". Someone should use their google to find out what the Darrel Hammond guy says about being fired as the Colonel. And whether he was told there'd be alternating Colonels or if he was hired to be the new long term Colonel. Hmmmmm....

KFC SEC team-themed fare to serve at all of our athletic contests.

You could use milk toast for the breading and instead of a biscuit for the miZzzouri version. Maybe, have a COlonel impersonator yawn on it.

I don't know though. I think the shopping cart investigation could help society more.

That’s better than 100% being indifferent. And that really is what’s important … we had lost relevance in the U.S. Sixty per cent of millennials had not eaten KFC.

As millennials eat basically 3 things

#1 Macaroni & Cheese
#2 Hot Dogs
#3 Processed Chicken Nuggets

It is shocking KFC has not connected with them. As for using consultants to run political campaigns (see also the Democrats fail the last try at the White House) or investigate food, one is assuring the results will fail.

To really sell a product in the post war era you really need 1 of 2 things
#1 A good product
#2 A premium marketing plan

McDonalds and Microsoft make terrible products but advertise the hell out of them successfully and become market leaders. Wendy's and Hewlett - Packard made good products but declined when the original owners let control go to a board who had no idea why the product worked in the first place and cheapened the contents so consumer demand faded.

KFC not being cheap bastards (and the leaders probably not ever actually eating the product) would do more for increasing demand than failed advertising and corporate lunacy in the sake of higher margins.

If I were running KFC this is what I would do first

#1 go back to the original recipes even if they cost more to make
#2 go back to Kentucky Fried Chicken from KFC (Taco Bell is not TB and Pizza Hut is not PH) and get back to your roots
#3 Allow the ACC, B1G, and SEC (as all 3 have ties to the corporate HQ in Louisville for KFC) to allow their franchises to offer team tailored products in local markets. Serve the "global menu" with each school territory have a local product added to the local menu.

I would be cool with a chicken wrapped hot dog served with a shot of bourbon offered in the UGA markets.

It's pretty simple why KFC lost ground:

1) Too late to offer french fries. You can't eat mashed potatos and gravy in the car.
2) Didn't get into the strips/fingers market soon enough. Millenials are too lazy to deal with bones.
3) Completely whiffed on the hot wings market.

KFC owned the chicken market and blew it. They're the Kodak of fast food.

Maybe, but their sauceless hot wings are actually pretty good.

I'm in my 40's but I still don't think I've heard of that. The fact that you have to ask me if I remember these tells me all I need to know about their market success.

And I guess you could eat mashed potatos and gravy in the car....and I'm not too good to steer with my knee...but having to eat anything with a spoon while driving isn't the best idea.

On that same note, Wendy's probably lost millions by making the Frosty too thick to be sucked through a straw.

I probably haven't eaten at KFC in 15 years. I do remember they had some kind of potato wedges instead of fries back in the day that were the shite.

I am going to try this KFC Georgia Gold one day soon though.

GOod work.

It was pretty obvious watching it unfold that they shifted gears on the original plan. After it turned the Colonel into terrifying creepazoid.

Check out this deal at Popeye's in Qatar for muslim St. Patricks Day..

For only 24 QR's, you get a sandwich, fries, a pepsi, two pieces of chicken, and a cookie/muffin thing for your camel.

I still think their potatos and gravy are really good. But their bucket of chicken and sides approach only worked for a big family dinner or picnic.

However, since the socialists began to wage open warfare on the traditional family the family dinner fell by the wayside. Mom's are encouraged to dump the dad and go to work...and even if they don't everyone is working 65 hrs a week to pay for the McMansion and 500 channels of cable. No time for the family dinner ... much less a picnic. Millenials are left to fend for themselves after getting high - which is usually going to be chips and hot pockets.

I blame the destruction of the family for KFC's failure.

Someday the CIA will release documents showing the biscuits have lard, when the time is right for the caliphate.

This is kind of random and it's possible I dreamed it, but didn't there used to be salad bars and potato bars inside of Wendy's?

Nope, in the old days Wendys was the shiznit, then Dave went away and the corporate folks took them into the crapper. When he came back for a bit it got good again but lately they have gone back to the crapper now that Dave is dead.

Think of it, you name your business after your daughter. No daddy on this earth would let that thing fail. Corporate guys could care less.

I believe Wendy's invented the modern fast food salad bar. I read Dave Thomas' book years ago. It alternates biography chapters with buisiness/leadership content.
