I like basketball, but I wouldn't trade any of the football titles I've been alive for. I don't think I'd trade a basketball title, if we had one, for a football one either.

1950, based on Jeff Sagarin. They even made a knockoff crystal trophy but replaced it with the Sugar Bowl trophy for that season after getting made fun of.

Funny enough Oklahoma who lost to Kentucky in that Sugar Bowl also claims a national championship in 1950.

Lets not even get started on North Carolina claiming their "Helms" titles in basketball, or Indiana who now hangs a banner for not shitting yourself on the court.

It was fun in 06 but 07 was so stressful because we were expected to repeat and anything less would've been considered a failure.

That's basically where we are in football. I have no idea how players and coaches deal with that sort of feeling every year. As a fan I struggle with it and I'm not even involved.

On topic, I would trade a basketball championship. Take one of Rick Pitino's. Those things will be cheap enough once he strips Louisvilles.

I love football more than Basketball.

That's because OU got the AP and Coaches. Why wouldn't they claim it?

Kansas claims 2 of 'em.

Or their "We Beat #1!" and Sweet 16 rings.

Would bama trade a legit football title for a basketball one? Hell no.

It's different since football is king and everyone knows it. Football natty carries a bit more weight than a bball one and I think most around america would agree.

UK has a billion basketball titles, what's losing 1 going to matter if it means a FOOTBALL title in return? This should be a no brainer.

UK fans are more supportive of the BB program catching UCLA for most titles than getting a FB Natty. Dont get me wrong, they would be ecstatic at winning a the CFP but BB reigns first priority...

Adolph Rupp played for Phogg Allen and James Naismith at KU... the James Naismith. Therefore many UK fans feel connected with the birth of BB and are very proud of it.

Well, we have one football national title, but it would be nice to get another.

UK will be a player for the east title this year. Gonna be interesting.

I would trade one of our 8 titles for a legit, BCS-or-later football national title.

Only Ohio State, Alabama and Clemson have legit national championships in major college football. One each. Every NC before those three is mythical. UK claims one of those MNCs.

I would not trade one of UK's titles for even one of the last three, however. Maybe if the field for the CFP was bigger...

Are you really comparing the high school talent in Florida vs Kentucky. Your argument is stupid.

To answer the op, if it is for a SEC title...no. For a National title...yes.

My point exactly. Basketball is king in the bluegrass, not football

If UF ever won a NC in WBB. Then whoever the coach is should immediately get a statue erected somewhere on campus. I don't care if the coach goes winless the next season.

Dammit. Almost nobody picked up on the fact that I didn't ask if they would trade one of their basketball titles for a football, I asked if they would trade one of Cal's basketball titles for a football one.

This is why I don't start troll threads. I suck at them.

I'll go with that. It feels somehow more gratifying than the alternative. You make a good point and are therefore a good person.

What about the BCS? Those were won on the field too.

BCSs have to be counted as legit. They're just CFP with one step removed, basically.

Pretty much any title, MNC or not, can be evaluated independently. I see no reason to deny the '96 Gators or the '92 Tide their titles because their body of work would almost certainly have given them the title under the BCS. Any of them can be argued but there comes a point when one side really does have the better case.
