That's a bit over the top. No single player can be responsible for a loss in a team sport. Even a kicker missing an extra point to tie as time expires isn't responsible. other players should have done more to prevent game from being that close.
How about the players letting Hunter freaking Renfrow have a field day against them (again)? What about the couple of drops? Missed tackles? Holding? Off sides on each of the first play after both turnovers the team got in plus territory? What about all that?
Had Sark called more than 4 running plays in the final 22 minutes of the game I think we probably are talking about how the FR QB went undefeated as a starter and won a title.
McElroy & Barker both player crappy in their title games but others did enough to overcome that play.

We were talking about football games. Yes, no, maybe?

Single most responsible and being singly responsible isn't the same. He was responsible for exhibiting enough of a passing threat that Clemson would have to respect that threat. He couldn't do it. He was the single most responsible player in that loss.

He was. I think I am done bitching about it though. I do hope he learns to complete passes and see open receivers or we will be auburn on offense despite who the new coach is. A true freshman starter 2 yrs in a row is unlikely. Our best chance to win this year is an improved Jalen Hurts.

Th defense costed us the NC. The freshman , 18 year old QB just walked us down the field for the go ahead score with under 3 minutes to go in the game. D couldn't hold the lead. Also....that freshman , 18 year old QB went undefeated getting Bama to the NC game. He had a hell of a year considering his age , experience, etc. Dude should be praised around here rather than hated on. Ill never uh understand how why Bama fan cannot be amazed at what the young man accomplished.

Clemson ran 99 plays. That defense played well until they got plain worn out from being on the field so long. Our offense managed 2 drives more than 5 plays. They had about twice as many first downs, controlled the ball twice as long. You give the other team, especially a talented team, 99 plays, and no defense can sustain for that long.
edit: Alabama had what could have been, should have been the best wide receivers in the nation, but no quarterback to get it to them. What a huge waste of talent. Could have been among the best if not the best team ever in college football, but for the lack of a quarterback.

Nah. 13-31 for 131 yards with just one TD loses the game against a great offense every time. You can't leave your defense out to where the other team has nearly 10 extra minutes of TOP and expect to win the game.
Hurts choked in that game. That isn't to say that he won't improve, but had we had Coker, McCarron, or even Sims we would have won that game. No question.

The defense played well enough to win.
How do you figure? Our defense has been great the last couple of years, but they weren't infallible. They didn't play well enough to win last year against Clemson but the offense and special teams bailed 'em out and that was when they weren't on the field 99 plays. This past game, the offense is partly to blame since they couldn't sustain many drives but, at some point, the D has to get some stops here and there. Giving up over 500 yards in a game, and over 400 yards passing, is never playing well enough to win...last year we could overcome it, but this year the offense/special teams couldn't play well enough to win either. It was a team loss...

When you're given the ball twice in their territory and you come up with zero points, you've contributed in a big way to the loss. When you go three and out more times than not, you've contributed in a big way to the loss.

For those who think that Hurts was not at fault for the loss because of that last minute touchdown, let me ask you this. Did you ever have to be the leader of a group project during college?
You know the guy who does nothing for a majority of the time, and then submits his research at the very last minute when the rest of the group has had to work their arse off the entire project? Hurts was that guy during the Clemson game.

That's a stupid, simpleton fricking analogy.

Please explain the situation, oh enlightened one.
Hurts went 13-31. 42%. Do you consider that good quarterback play?
Meanwhile, the defense plays 99 snaps. The average for CFB in 2016 is 75. If the defense played 75 snaps, they would give up 26.5 points. We could have won the game had Hurts got his act together.

I agree...but when your defense gives up over 500 yards of offense, it also contributes in a big way to the loss. When your defense gives up 35 points, it contributes in a big way to the loss. When your red zone defense gives up 4 TDs in 4 attempts, it contributes in a big way to the loss...

The defense doesn't give up 500 yards without the offense constantly giving the ball back to the best player in college football. Could our defense have performed better? Perhaps. A lot of that has to do with rest. I would love for you to point out a game where a defense played well after 99 snaps.

This is a pretty good, informative Chip Kelly thread.

I'm sorry chatta and Huddie. I don't mean to get so defensive. I just hate yalls lack of perspective, and it frustrates me sometimes. I know that it's just a message board, and I get carried away. I'm a nice, laid back person IRL. I will try and do better on here.

My God you are terrible with this Hurts shite. He was a true freshman. He will improve.
Posted on 2/7/17 at 9:52 pm to NashBamaFan
Please tell me your joking..our defense is the only reason we were undefeated. Jalen will get better, but he was horrible that game and the end of the season. I was there..wide open guys running free left and right. All he would do is spin, scramble and fall for a sack. He was very timid in the pass and run game. It was very frustrating to watch. The gleamer of hope was the last drive, Stewart still threw the best ball. Jalen threw across his body and it should have been picked on his play. 99 plays and our defense was the problem?? That's border line L6U or 10RC thinking.. Like I said he will get better, but take off the Crimson glasses he had a bad game. But hey what does a old golfer from the capstone know..lol
I will stick to golf from now on, tournament time is coming up. Don't wanna get caught in the sidewalk

Yeah, really. I thought we were moving on, but we just keep cluttering up threads with who was at fault for losing the national championship game. It's not like it was the same guys, all of them, that got us to that point in the first place. Those same players could have folded against Ole Miss, let the LSU game slip away, heaven forbid blow the IB, or even lose to UW. But they did none of that.
Posted on 2/7/17 at 10:06 pm to chattabama
The receivers were as bad as Jalen. So was the 2nd half play calling. We needed one play from the defense and couldn't get it. Clemson won that game, Bama didn't lose it. Enough of this melting. Roll damn Tide
I don't believe Chip Kelly is coming to Alabama FWIW.
