Pretty good read. Didn't realize you guys had broken into the Top 10. Should bring some excitement for next year for Ag Nation.

Best recruiting class in a few years should fire up your base. Nice work.
How Texas A&M is assembling a top-10 recruiting class
quote:
With eight days remaining until national signing day, Texas A&M sits comfortably in the top 10 nationally with its 26-member recruiting class. While anything can happen in the 11th hour, as it often does in the recruiting world, the Aggies are unlikely to encounter significant signing day drama that would shake up their No. 8 recruiting haul because more than a third of it is already on campus: Nine commits are enrolled for the spring semester, including the top five prospects.
Following a forgettable end-of-season stretch, during which the Aggies went 1-4 and fell from No. 4 in the initial College Football Playoff rankings to 8-5 and unranked, recruiting is still going well.
quote:
But how? With a third straight 8-5 finish and national media speculating about the long-term future of Kevin Sumlin, how have the Aggies been able to secure the best recruiting class they’ve had in three years? One reason is Sumlin and his coaching staff’s ability to win recruiting battles the old-fashioned way: forging strong relationships.

We might be top 10 now, but I doubt we stay come signing day, probably drop to the 12-16 range.

Staff failed on the field this past year, but they deserve credit for still putting together a solid class.
A lot of people will point to the 2014 class (#5 nationally) that went 7-5,8-4,8-4 and say it doesn't matter as long as Sumlin is the coach, and they're probably right, but I'd rather have good players with bad coaching than average players with bad coaching.

USC is a lock to pass us
Clemson and Notre Dame almost certainly will.
Penn St, UCLA and Miami might, not sure who else they expect to commit.
I'm guessing this class ends up #12 or #13. Don't really see it dropping below #15.

Yeah having talent on campus can only be good, it helps attract the next coach and quickens his turnaround if anything

Seriously doubt this happens. That is not they way college football recruiting works, especially with new staffs at this level. Sips, OU, the rest of the Big 12, and the SEC West would create an atmosphere that we would not recover from for years.
The only way to counter this would be to pilfer a coach of a national powerhouse or a former NFL coach and that probably still wouldn't help. Remember when A&M took Franchione from Bama.

The automated excuse maker appears to be malfunctioning. May need a tuneup this offseason.

Don't sell yourself short brah. Sumlin works some voodoo magic on some of these guys. Stole some from us even.

It depends on how you define successful. We are losing a lot of talent off an already mediocre team. Expecting to equal last year's results is a stretch

I think it is important to note that we had serious attrition issues with the 2013 and 2014 class. We need to assemble 3-4 decently talented classes in a row, and them stay until they graduate. This would do us wonders.

My favorite part of the article:
What is it with us an hashtags?
quote:
In the era of group texting, several Texas A&M commits keep close tabs on one another, strengthening their bond. On social media, Paul and safety commit Devin Morris are among those credited for their efforts to promote Texas A&M via the “#GigEmGang17” hashtag.

We didn't really have abnormal attrition in the 2014 class. 30% is about normal. There will always be guys that get hurt, don't pan out, or get in trouble. But beyond that, it's fairly healthy number as it allows you to take a full complement every year. The 2014 class is squarely in the normal range, neither particularly good nor bad.
2013 was absurdly high and also was a big class to try to make up numbers. That's a bad combo. It's possible 14 attrition has more impact because of how awful 13 was but it wasn't in the same realm.

You guys are getting alot of talent, and filling the right holes. Congrats. We were hoping this wouldn't be the case.

You can thank Baylor for firing Art Briles. That MADE this class.
