Fulmer for Athletic Director - Pros and Cons

Let's review the pros and cons of hiring Fulmer as athletic director.
Cons:
Doesn't have the experience needed to run the Athletic Department.
Did a poor job of hiring and firing assistant coaches while he was the head coach.
Directly responsible for the decline of the football program post 1998.
Doesn't seem to be any indication that he knows a damn thing about sports other than football.
Has made it clear he will go behind others' backs to do things for his own personal benefit.
When he was in a position to influence who was hired as AD, he supported Mike Hamilton.
Pros:
Loves UT.
Would make for a pretty good coach if he had access to a time machine.
Feel free to add to either list.

trying to be objective about this.
Pros:
Loves UT
Would likely be able to fund raise well
Solid connections across UT fan base, SEC country, and in CFB in general
Cons:
He's Phillip Fulmer
He has no experience and will be out of his element compared to other, more experienced ADs when it is time to look for coaches (in a variety of sports)
His ego may get in way of what is best for UT
He will likely look for any opportunity to name self interim coach if/when UT moves on from Butch
He's still Phillip Fulmer

Fat
Bad idea to go after former coaches as ADs

It is amazing to me he is getting a look. Ask yourself, would you put a guy, who's only job in life has been coaching a boys game, in charge of a 100 MM business? No rational person would. He has no clue how to properly manage cash flows.

Can a Con be that he is the Athletic Director for the University of Tennessee?

Does that mean we have to retire the Fulmer Cup?

Meh, its not like they are hiring someone who will be AD for the next thirty years. Phil isn't exactly a spring chicken anymore.
He should be great at fund raising and the old money boosters will probably feel a bit better having an old hand around for whatever happens with Butch.
Let him hold down the fort for a few years while you groom a successor or find a long term fit.

Has he said anything publicly against him. Would be pretty funny to see them together for one year.

Avg weight for UT coed will be reduced to 250 lbs due to lack of doughnuts in dining halls.

Coach Fulmer showed that he can successfully lead a large and complex organization.
He has been involved with NCAA Athletics for 40+ years.
He is a Tennessee man first last and always.
The skill set to coach and to be an AD are not the same.
He will do fine and he deserves our support.
