Link? We'll finish about 10-12 nationally.

Have you hired his replacement yet?

No need. Just have to show recruits the list of coaches. When they fail to find the name, Butch Jones, all is well.

I have to question the sanity of any high-profile offensive recruit who wants to play in Wackelwain's offensive system.

It's not really falling apart... it was just shitty to begin with.

I will say that Mac actually has done a really good job at finding 3-star diamonds. But the lack of truly elite prospects while teams like BAMA and FSU are loading up is gonna hurt us in the foreseeable future.

Its not really falling apart, Mac's just a shitty recruiter. Last year was his big "2nd year bump" class so you had to expect it to fall off a little from that stellar #12.

It might actually be worse for us in the long run that Mac is an above average X's and O's guy-- he's basically going to lock us in a 8-4 to 10-2 holding pattern and the East is shitty enough that he'll be hard to fire.

Eh....that's a bit optimistic-- and even if it did occur would just cement Mac as the worst recruiting HC in modern Florida history-- prior to McElwain's first 3 recruiting classes Florida had never (or at least not since 2000- the farthest back most sites go) finished outside of the top 10 in recruiting 3 years in a row- not even during a transition period much less under a single HC.

It's weird because ON PAPER, we have guys like Randy Shannon, Chris Rumph, and Torrian Gray who should all be great/elite recruiters.

The Florida brand right now just doesn't seem to be connecting with top recruits. Our facilities are lackluster compared to everyone else and there just doesn't seem to be any buzz/swagger about the program. We're just stagnant right now.

Top recruits don't play in Bowl games so we are ahead of the curve in avoiding these issues. #trendsetta

Is it? Mac has been a lousy recruiter at UF his entire tenure. Lord knows why. Florida is so talent rich it almost takes work to be this bad at it.

If Franks is a great QB, recruiting will fix itself.

If UF's offense comes around, UF's recruiting will fix itself.

Even if neither happen, UF needs to start finishing the season far better than you have the past two seasons. I think that would go a long way towards getting back to UF standards.

I will say tho this is the first time in a long time UF has had to deal with FSU, Miami, AND the occasional competition from the smaller but much better than in ages past programs like UCF and the like. The small schools don't make as big of an impact but all combined with FSU and Miami and it's probably a tougher recruiting situation than Florida has faced in a while.

The lack of buzz is what's killing us- normally a major program hires someone who for the first few years has a huge recruiting advantage based around two primary models:

a)young and promising and can sell the future- ala what Kirby is doing in Athens (a big gamble- see Muschamp).

Or

b)an established guy who can sell kids on his past success

McElwain didn't really fit into either of those paradigms- he had the resume of an unproven but promising up and comer (like a poor man's Herman without the big wins) but wasn't exactly a shooting star lighting up ESPN with highlights (Furthermore, his program/system isn't exactly exciting) so he's not getting any buzz from slick highlights- he coached on a couple of title teams but on the side of the ball most people don't view as the driving force of the program so he can't even really point to the Bama highlights and sell kids on those. Add in him being about a decade to a decade an half too old to really sell kids as an exciting young gun and you get problems.

Honestly, it's probably not great for recruiting when its hard even for fans of the program to really explain how Mac's vision of an ideal Florida team differs from Muschamp's-- Foley basically doubled down on the Gators being "Bama but with less talent".

Multiple posters on multiple sites have noted this but programs have an identity in the minds of fans and recruits and Florida's isn't "Power run + Great Defense" that's LSU or Bama before Kiffin opened up the offense; trying to run the same approach as every major program in our recruiting footprint when virtually every major program achievement was arrived at with an offensive approach that was starkly different from its relative peers seems asinine.

I don't know but it's absolutely embarrassing. Florida should be at least top 10 in recruiting EVERY SINGLE YEAR. NO EXCUSES. You're in the most talent rich state in the nation. Even Muschamp managed to pull in the 9th ranked class after the 4-8 season, so I don't know what the hell is up with Mcelwain.
