Sumlin parlayed that into a job at a big money school playing in the big boy SEC, and we all can see how that turned out...any reason why we should believe that Tom Herman will be any different?

I've been saying this all along. Herman could very well be a bust. Then again, he could be the next Urban Meyer, who was the "up and comer" from a smaller school.

My guess: it's somewhere in the middle.

He was a damn good play caller at OSU. He also successfully used 3 different qbs that year. Considering the different skill sets each of those qbs had it was impressive. If nothing else the qb play should improve under him and isn't that what the biggest knock was under Miles?

I hope Sumlin gets help, or is somehow able to rise above the video I saw of him earlier this season having to be helped by two people to his hotel room. I guess that's why he always has sunglasses on.

Not many proven A list coaches out there. 3-4 guys. Who's next?

Anyone who thinks Herman will walk in and start dominating the SEC is a fool. This is the toughest conference in CFB. The conference has the GOAT HC (arguably). If our new HC can just be competitive with Alabama I will be satisfied.

Dana Holgorsen and Case Keenum were the "Brains" of that Houston outfit while Sumlin was there. As soon as they both were gone, the program started to regress, but the "Politically Correct" simpletons at A&M hired him anyway.

He lucked out with Manziel at A&M and still couldn't win shite.

The writing is on the wall. Some "Coordinators" just don't have what it takes to be Championship HC's at Adult Big Boy schools.

It appears that Herman can actually coach without any Superstar Coaches or QB's saving his arse.....

His biggest achievement was parlaying the very remote chance that USC wanted him.... they were never serious... into a big contract and extension.

Good for him. He got over on our administration.

Yea, Herman looks good but he hasn't won anything. He has more resources than anybody in the AAC. That won't be the case in Baton Rouge.
Maybe we'll get to see how good he is.
LSU has their opinion of what will happen.
Most of us figure he will drop a couple every year he shouldn't.

Don't matter one way or the other but O may be as good as anyone. At least he's coached in the SEC.

Sumlin is a great coach and the best Texas AM can expect. It's unfair that he gets compared to Saban. If they get rid of him, it will be a terrible move, because his players love him and a new coach will have to win the locker room.

You're right. Sumlin isn't good so no coach from houston can ever be good and LSU should hire back Miles.
