I was there for the final Cutcliffe year, then the subsequent Orgeron years. Kids these days haven't experienced anything like that.

Think about it. A senior this year knows nothing else other than OM being good, thus they tend to take it for granted. Not because they necessarily don't care; they just don't know any better. Their line of thinking probably goes something like "I show up, watch some of the game, and leave to get a head start on the party afterwards".

I mean Im a senior, you're right I dont know the the awful Ole Miss. But doesnt mean I leave every game at halftime, Wofford and Memphis are the games I left early because honestly both were for sure wins and I don't need anymore blister sunburns from the day games.

The kids these days just don't have their priorities straight Pank. When I was in school, Saturdays were the only days I set an alarm and woke up before 2. It involved drinking bourbon as soon as I rolled out of bed, getting bent, and watching football. Pussy was for the other six days of the week. I can honestly say I was too drunk to even get it up on game days. If I could, I had failed as a good Rebel. I met a girl who also loved football and drinking on Saturdays, so I married her. Ten years later, we're still going strong and have a little Reb being taught our ways and who's destined to play at Ole Miss. Even as we've calmed down over the years and can count the days we even have a single drink on two hands, Saturday's remain the same as if we were 20 all over again as I try my best to finish off what little liver I have left and wake up hoarse from cheering on the Rebs.

Wow. Such amazing words here. You sir are a great Rebel.

Memphis was a night game and they made it close in the second half.

Never said the Memphis game was during the day. Plus we also won 48-28 so it being a one touchdown game for less than 2 mins in the 3rd doesn't really change anything

That wouldn't change anything, a lot of the students who leave just don't give a shite about football and are only there for the social scene thus any chance/excuses they get (halftime, 4th quarter, the game looks like it's over, friends are in the grove etc.) they will leave immediately.

Blistering sunburns?? Throw on some freaking SPF. The Grove is largely in part a glorified fashion scene. As people have said it is about the social experience. We need more football fans. That student section was a damn joke in the 2nd half, and no it wasn't late or anything. In fact it was 9 o clock Mississippi time, not even EST. Christ. And for those saying "Because we've been good." Not really, at least in my opinion. Alabama is good. A team that can win their division. Ole Miss a team that blows division leads and rolls out the red carpet for teams like Bama = not very good. I think we've been "above average" but we've not yet reached good. A team that specializes in losing neck to neck games that boil down to the 4th or collapsing in on itself like a dying star when having multi-touchdown leads, is not good.

We have one of the best Wide Receiver groups I've ever seen on a football field, and we can't do shite. It is what it is. I'm not a coach, and I'm not on the team. Best of luck Rebels, hope you guys get it together.

I headed straight back from Memphis after the Florida game to the place I like to drink in town in order to watch the game, and just after half time, a kid whom I had considered the Ole Miss uber fan (dude will go on forever about Rebel anything) wandered in and was talking about being at the game.

I was asked, "Wait, you were AT the game."

"Yeah - left at halftime to go home and drink more."

"So you left a close game where you were threatening to upset a ranked opponent who also happens to be a conference rival to go get more fricked up and the come to a bar on the square?"

"Yeah."

"Like, you were in the stadium?"

"Yeah, student section. Everyone was kinda clearing out at halftime though."

That kinda blew my mind. Aren't these games the ones you wish for (at least through the third quarter?) And he had other students with him that did it too!

Then we got in a protracted conversation about how he was cursed to be born a Rebel and how we all secretly wish we were Alabama fans, to which I responded I had a scholarship to go to Alabama for grad school, would have been there for three National Championships, and I have NEVER wished I would have chosen Alabama.

It was like a tRant thread came to life in front of me.

I also hear a lot of bitching about the new student section being in the sun, which makes me laugh. Student tickets in the Swamp have been in the west stands forever, which is miserable the first half of the season. It's in direct sun pretty much from Noon until at least 6:00 or so. But you go, and most of us stayed - all of us for the most part for a game like the one last night. This was 2010-2013, so it wasn't exactly ancient history. I imagine that most all stadiums do this with students; unless it's covered, the west side of the stadium will always be the sunshine section. The students here had just been lucky until this year.

I mean, I'm not really trying to come down on anyone. But as someone one coming in from the outside and trying to get more into the scene here, it's definitely different. Mostly it is strange to see a fan base that tailgates like no other but has so many people in it who really don't seem to care all that much what is going on over in the stadium after a point.

I hate how so much of our fanbase (not just students) care way more about tailgating than the actual game.

I agree. I couldn't care less about tailgating anymore. It was fun for a while but now I don't even set up anymore, I just go to the game.
It's ridiculous knowing people that have tickets to the game but would rather sit outside in the grove.
