The Southwest Classic

Wow, what a game. Im honestly glad I woke up and drove to cstat this morning. Prarie View may be Prarie View, but a shut out is always something to celebrate. Way to go Aggs!
On to the point. During my post game drunkenness, I've had an idea. The southwest classic was a really great idea when it started. Playing an out of conference opponent every year that revives the old school rivalry is something I can always get behind. Now that we are in the SEC, the southwest classic is just a regular conference game at a neutral site.
I propose the southwest classic consist of 4 teams that all play each other every year. Two from the SEC and two from the Big 12. The outcome of the six games would result in a trophy for the best of the 4 teams across the rivalry matchups. The 4 teams involved: A&M, Arky, TCU, and Texas. I'm not saying we should play Texas on Thanksgiving, but I do want to play them. I hate that we don't have any recurring instate opponents. This would help us with strength of schedule and would provide additional funding through marketing and TV.
I know people like to say they don't care about playing Texas, but I for one think it's terrible that the game doesn't happen any longer. Getting another great opponent in TCU on the schedule every year is a big SOS win.
Really curious to hear other people's thoughts on this.

I miss playing Texas, but we sure as shite better beat them if we play.

I honestly thought I'd miss the t.u. game. Only thing that gave me any sort of pause during expansion.
I was wrong. I don't miss it even a little bit
I like your idea, but it's not really a factor for me emotionally. If we play 'em again, great. If not, great.

This is similar to the Cascadia Cup in the MLS. Portland, Vancouver, and Seattle all count points from their head to heads. The team with the most wins the trophy.
Would you rather play Texas and TCU or UTSA and NMST?

UTSA and NMST. Easily.
I'm from SA and have family at UTSA.
And New Mexico State is the Aggies

First, I like the out of the box thinking.
But we play in the SEC West. The LAST thing we need to worry about is boosting our strength of schedule. We never need more than one P5 school in OOC.
Having UTex and TCU on the schedule every year would mean we couldn't have games against ASU, UCLA, Clemson, Notre Dame, etc. In fact, just having UTex on the schedule would probably prohibit most of those other marquee games.
Don't miss the UTex game.

Could a team with 3 P5 teams ooc and 2 losses get into the playoff over a team with shitty ooc scheduling?
Maybe I'm in the minority, but I watch Aggie football for entertainment and I want to see games that actually matter. If we can't beat TCU and UT, we don't deserve a natty anyway...

No, I don't think so. At least, not when there will also be numerous teams with decent OOC scheduling and one loss.

In a perfect NCAA world, I would agree. I'd love for all P5 schools to ONLY schedule other P5 schools. But intentionally stacking our own schedule, without other teams following suit, is stacking the deck against us. Our record will suffer, which will make recruiting suffer, and things spiral down from there.

I honestly don't. Most Ags these days probably don't.

Actually, I think k most Ags do. However they don't post on the Internet.
But they are also glad we are in the SEC.

Most Aggies don't care. Most believe we will be taking a "step back" by associating ourselves with that garbage conference. Why should we help them maintain legitamcy?

I'm still indifferent about playing Texas. Could care less honestly. I won't object to playing them but I also wouldn't lobby hard to play the game.

In the old days when we maybe got 3 games a year on TV, the Thanksgiving game was one of our few guaranteed national games. That's part of the reason it seemed so huge in the past. Even if they were back on the schedule now, the game wouldn't carry the weight and impact that it did for those who are nostalgic for the past.
