Apparently the wealthy folks in the boxes can't see past the students (speculation), so the 12th man has to take a step down. Seems like one of those things everyone is overreacting about.
Only reason I'm upset about it is it will cause a few dozen stubborn Ags to get into an argument with a stadium attendant and due to their lack of patience on the matter, a security guard will escort some unruly students out of the stadium.

It's probably more of an insurance/safety issue.

False. It's because it tears up the bleachers by loosing/shearing off the bolts that hold them down.

I better not see one fricking foot on the concrete once the game starts unless there's an injury or it's halftime.
In fact, you step off the wood out of turn, you lose yer gawddayum foot

The "wood" on the first deck was getting pretty sketchy by my senior year. I would imagine they're trying to preserve the seating.

Yeah, I would imagine it's about wear and tear. Someone on the other site actually made a pretty funny comment about Billy Pickard not being around to test the benches anymore.
Honestly, I never got the big deal about it as a student. It just added unnecessary confusion about which row you were in. And gave fat fish camp girls a reason to scream "OFF THE WOOOOOD!!!!!"
But I haven't been in the student section in a very long time, so I'm not going to pretend to care one way or another.

I just don't get how you stop yourself from walking forward. Not that I really care about this at all, it just doesn't seem plausible.

You just like an excuse to get up close and rub your junk on the back of the guy standing in front of you. Guess you'll have to get your junk-rubbing in on Northgate the night before.

They make enough money to fricking repair it.

I agree. This isn't really a big deal.

I didn't realize some people really did take this really seriously.
"Help us save this tradition!"
or that the president addressed it at Midnight Yell GBH
Admittedly, I was a pretty big 2%er, with one or two exceptions, but there's just a limit to how many traditions I care about.
