Tre White
Jamal Adams
Savion Smith
Donte Jackson
Kendal Beckwith
Arden Key
Lewis Neal
Davin Godchaux
Lacouture
Are all experienced defensive players who will go in the top three rounds.
Malachi Dupre
Travin Dural
Leonard Fournette
Ethan Pocic
Tommy Clapp
Toby Weathersby
Maea Teuhema
Derrius Guice
are similar quality on the offensive side.
Our QB is returning after a solid first year of starting. Add in a great recruiting class, and that explains it.

A lot of experience and a lot of talent. It's pretty easy to see the reason for optimism.

In the past LSU lost a lot of guys with eligibility remaining. This year they came back. 18 returning starters. Also, Harris seemed to respond to having Cam on the sidelines coaching him instead of in the booth. The bowl offense was much more wide open. Leads to optimism.

i think 10-2 is our ceiling but it's an attainable ceiling. i just can't go higher with les as our coach.
i say that fully understanding he has gone 12-0 in a season.

The true freshman? Tell me more
Donte Jackson the sparingly used dime back. If he is an experienced player, then every team in the conference has talented and experienced players. Therein lies the problem. LSU might have talent and experience, but no more than Georgia, Florida, Tennesee, and Ole Miss, and certainly not more than Alabama

I'm not sure why he would include a true freshman and leave off Dwayne Thomas, Ed Paris and Ricky Jefferson.
ETA: I'm assuming he meant Kevin Toliver rather than Savion Smith. He also left off Frank Herron and Tashawn Bower.

Ok.
I think any so called SEC football fan who has to ask this question is full of shite.
You say you are a Alabama fan. You can't see why some LSU fans would be really excited? General knowledge of football and the SEC should have given you the answer you seek.

Don't forget Tommy Clapp. Unless that's some nickname his name is Will Clapp.

If true, it will be miserable around here! LSU will never have this much returning talent relative to others in the West.

what DOES have have the lot of you excited about this year
The hope that B. Harris has improved enough to be serviceable and respected as a quarterback. If that happens, pieces will start to fit into place through the year for a special season. Of course that is best case scenario.

I think we've averaged around 10-12 returning starters the past 4 years. This year we have 18.
Upgraded at DC
Upperclassmen at QB. The past 6 LSU teams to have that went 13-1, 11-2, 12-2, 11-2, 13-1, and 10-3; winning 2 national titles and 3 SEC titles.

LSU wins 9 on talent alone every year.

Lots of talent returning in the trenches and skill positions. Fournette is elite. Aranda. Optimistic Harris will improve going into his junior year.

I just don't buy this. LSU got absolutely bullied in the trenches the entire month of November last year. They're obviously SEC caliber players- see September and October- but collectively it's hard for me to buy that they're really that talented based on how things played out at the end of last season. I mean, the consensus on this website prior to the Alabama game was that LSU had the best offensive line in the country, and then they got manhandled 3 times. I'm sure they've gotten better, but I won't assume everyone else in the league sat idly by while LSU improved

You don't have to buy it. They absolutely return a lot of talent in the trenches, though. If anything, inability to adapt is what cost LSU in November. Once it was established that Harris wasn't going to do much (remember, he was injured vs bama-sports hernia) then it was over.

Well that's fine, you're an LSU fan. Bama, Arkansas, and Ole Miss would beg to differ

1. Return most starters and minutes in the country (or top 2?)
2. Brandon Harris natural maturation. Guy has all the physical tools, returns in the same system with same players around him, healthy, and has Cam on the sidelines. He doesn’t need to be an all-american, he just needs to be “pretty good”
3. Best duo of LSU running backs in a long, long time. Maybe ever.
4. Defense returns a ton including key positions like both CBs, S, MLB, and DL. Arden Key is going to be a freak at OLB.
5. Aranda is a MASSIVE upgrade at DC.
So a great running game, a great defense, and a ton of returning starters including at QB. We don’t need Cam Newton to win. We need good/average at QB and we’ll be very tough to beat.
That being said, we lose at least 1 regular season game. My guess is at Arkansas and maybe Bama. Both have our number.
