Ehh, Our pass D was awful. The only thing that saved us was that their playing calling sucked and a little bit of Steele.

I wouldn't say their play calling was that bad as much as they called the plays they felt they could execute. And they couldn't. LSU was a running team. They were never (In 2015) a HUGE threat to throw the ball.

someone actually goes and digs up stats for you of Steele dropping 60 spots with the same players, and now you wanna blame the position coaches?

Oh so if they are different, then all your points in this thread have no bearing on it.

Well, considering I haven't said anything about aiming low, the only things that have no bearing on this conversation are your comments. You've done nothing but rant about something I didn't even say.

Seriously, are you mentally challenged?

We got it. You literally are incapable of providing anything refreshing and nobody is asking you to. None of the Auburn fans expect Steele to be great.

Man, you asked for information. I gave you statistics and now you're telling me I have no information.

I'll just leave

ETA:

This is what you said:

You guys aren't shedding any light by calling him terrible/horrible/etc.

If you'd provide some stats to back up your observations then that would be helpful

Which I did. Bye Felicia.

I literally said that I didn't need to see stats to know LSU's defense was worse. I was just tired of LSU posters jumping in here with "steele blows" and trying to make that seem like a refreshing take.

And no, I'm not blaming position coaches. I don't even know all of them. I'm just pointing out that everyone knows who LSU fans blame for the poor defensive performance and you're not bringing anything new to the table by regurgitating it.

Hell, I'm agreeing with you guys saying he sucks But that's not what this thread is really about. It's about Gus pimping his defense at an Auburn club meeting

Arkansas was a running team but we could still execute a passing offense. There is no excuse for them not having that team ready to throw on us.

I know they're worse. I'm not challenging you to find bad numbers. I'm just saying that persistent comments on how he sucks probably impresses folks on the Tiger Rant but it doesn't do anything for me.

I also said this, not that you care

Again - I'll agree with you all day on how bad Steele sucks but it has little to do with anything I care about in this thread. I'm just suggesting that if you take the time to make a post in the thread at least explain why he sucks. Not because I need to know but because it would make you and this board a little better

Not arguing how bad he is. I know he sucks. I just wanted to point out that nobody but LSU fans take anything away from "steele sucks" without providing why because we didn't watch every game.

Everyone knows how LSU fans feel about him

I stated how bad his zone scheme was, pointed out why it was terrible, and posted stats to show 4 different areas he caused us to regress horrifically.

That's great! Do you want an award for providing something more than "Steele sucks"?

That was all I was asking for. I wasn't disagreeing with you.

I don't know. Alabama fans. Clemson fans. Baylor fans. All pretty well versed on his defense. Was fired at two of those places and demoted at the other.

Great position coach. Amazing recruiter. Question his ability as a coordinator and head coach.

They simply had no confidence in their QB. Whether it was because he was bad, or he was hurt or whatever, it doesn't matter. but they had no confidence that Harris could throw the ball on a competent SEC defense.

I understand what you are saying, but Brandon Allen was a competent SEC QB last year. Better than competent. Harris....not so much for whatever reason.

I think we are both arguing the same point

I just think the coaches should take a major share of that blame.

Gus was pandering to his crowd back in May. Those old codgers from the West Georgia Auburn Club in LaGrange wanted to hear that their offensive guru HC was focused and zoned in on fielding an "Auburn" defense from years past.

I don't see a problem with that - you gotta tell the fans what they want to hear.

You're a good poster Jones, so I hate to do this to you but the stats back up their assertions.

Here are the defensive stats (from ESPN) for those teams including the year before Steele, his tenure (in bold), and the year after.

Yards per game

Alabama
2006 - 18th
2007 - 28th
2008 - 3rd

Clemson
2008 - 17th
2009 - 20th
2010 - 19th
2011 - 70th

2012 - 65th

Lsu
2014 - 8th
2015 - 25th

Points per game

Alabama
2006 - 29th
2007 - 30th
2008 - 6th

Clemson
2008 - 10th
2009 - 25th
2010 - 13th
2011 - 81st
2012 - 48th

Lsu
2014 - 3rd
2015 - 44th

At every stop, the team's performance under Steele declined immediately after his arrival and improved immediately after his exit. At Clemson (his only multi-year stop), during his entire tenure his defenses never matched the performance of the team the year before he took the job.

Based on Steele's history, Lawson and friends are going to have to play very, very, very well in order for Auburn to simply match the performance of the 2015 unit. Hoping to see a drastically improved unit is betting against a decade of documented Steele declines.
