A good O-line is what makes the offense go.

We can debate the whole dual threat thing all we want but there's a reason why the past 2 classes we've only heavily recruited dual threat guys

What good pocket passers has he had at Auburn?
Or maybe you can quit blaming hte talent considering Gus has had plenty of opportunities to be at least decent with pocket QBs
He couldn't win with 4* top 100 Mr. Alabama Jeremy Johnson
He couldn't win with 4* top 250 Snowboard Cam
He couldn't win with 3* Mr Alabama Clint Mosely
He couldn't win with 3* Barrett Trotter
He couldn't win with 3* Chris Todd
While at Arkansas Gus only won 9 games despite having the best RB in the past decade in Darren McFadden

if Gus does what i think/hope he's doing and really do more sets with the WRs split out as wide as humanly possible that it will make the passing game MUCH easier for White
Sounds very similar to what Rich Rodriguez does to open running lanes for DT QBs and help DT QBs in the passing game.

There is one SEC caliber qb on that list.

Yeah he also had Houston fricking Nutt on the sideline

Yep. Makes it much easier for the QBs to read the D in the passing game. It certainly can help in a passing offense as well (similar to what Baylor does).

I don't think there's any debate that Gus would RATHER have a DTQB....but "dual" threat insinuates that the QB can throw AND run. Not just 1 or the other.

I put out the bat signal in this thread earlier.

You are forgetting that Baylor uses their QBs as weapons in a DT sense which is important in that scheme. All their QBs' running threat played a key role in their offense.
Regardless, having to make simple reads for a pocket passer isn't very reassuring. Sounds a lot more like the move of a coach wanted to simplify the passing offense for a running QB who needs help in the passing game

Pat White couldn't throw at West Virginia. He seemed to do just fine with RichRod's offense.
If Gus is the guru everyone hopes he is, he should be able to open up easy passing lanes for JF3 by spreading the field and running to open up passing lanes.

Ahhhhh, the good ol' days when some Auburn fans were calling for Nick Marshall to be benched in order to start Jeremy Johnson.

No crap. How naive we were! Looking back on it, it is like a high school kid talking about how hard life is. We had it good. It was easy. Miss you Nick. Miss ya big guy.

Just bc he wasn't an NFL QB doesn't mean he couldn't throw. He threw well at WVU. JF3 isn't even on a collegiate level as a passer from what people seem to say about him. I have only seen the A Day game, FSU spring game and some JUCO tape....but it's not even close to a Pat White at WVU level from what I can see.
I will agree with you that the skillset exists with JF3. But my goodness he has to at least hit the open throws, ya know?

It amazes me that JJ, with as big as he is, cannot run the read option at least to the point of keeping a defense honest. It appears he is just too scared to take a hit.

Not sure why that's news to you.
This whole QB bet bullshite has ruined this board. You've all lost sight that the best QB on our roster is a very mediocre Sean White and that no matter if it's him, JJ, or JF3 we've got a very low ceiling for '16.
So anyway, all this QB starter stuff aside and talking solely about the system that our offense operates in it's clear that our focus for the future of the position is locked into dual threat guys - regardless if that fits the traits that our current QBs have.

The bet was that Sean White is A) the best QB on the roster and B) that he is talented enough to win 8 games next year.

Preach and all but, if we don't make it past this year, we may have to retool a whole other system under a new coaching staff.
