Just passed and signed into law a religious freedom bill that specifically affirms the right of businesses and individuals to discriminate against gays.

What if me and the Mr. want this for one of our groom's cakes?

It's a free country. Make it yourself. Or, do you think the state should force someone to make it for you?

Discriminate is the wrong word
Freedom goes both ways (pardon the pun)
I don't agree with it and it's really bad business if you ask me ... But any company, from a Multinational to an LLC, has the right to refuse to do business with or provide services to any individual if they so choose...
The Liberal, Jew run media has told you that this is unacceptable ... But the bill has passed... So it is what it is.

Forget the business aspect - shouldn't individuals be free to discriminate however they want to, whenever they want to? What kind of law would prevent that?

That's mostly my view, but it is becoming more rare for that belief to win out. As for Mississippi's new law, it will almost certainly be overturned in the Supreme Court as soon as someone challenges it.
And to play devil's advocate, substitute "black" for "gay" and see how that sounds to you. I think I'd still side with the rights of private business owners to do whatever the hell they want that's legal, recognizing that they might make really stupid decisions. Or maybe not. I've never been in that position.

Just a hunch here, but I would guess the Free Exercise and Establishment clauses would come in to play with this being a government deal. I would assume it doesn't have much to do with privatized business.
Is that accurate?
Is that accurate?

Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world.…

People who love this bill won't like it so much when someone denies them a service.

I support anyone's right to deny me service, as long as they support my right to deny them.
Look, I own a sawmill. I get 2-3 calls a week from potential customers who want lumber delivered to Pakistan. Every week for 5 years. And I used to spend 30-45 mins on the phone with them. But after 5 years, I've never gotten an actual order from Pakistan. So, now, I tell the receptionist to ask where they want the lumber delivered. And if they say Pakistan, she tells them we're not interested and doesn't forward me the call.
That's my decision. And it's based on my experience and my judgment about how I use my time. Without clarity of laws like this, it's technically illegal for me to have a policy of hanging up on people from Pakistan.

I don't care one way or the other for the bill. I don't think we should need this because a business should have the right to deny service. It isn't good business to just blindly discriminate, but business should be free to do that.
I don't frequent places that would deny me service, but I wouldn't get butt hurt about it. I can take my money to another business.

Here's an idea for all of the gay people in MS......open your own businesses......you can refuse service to the straight folks........problem solved

I use to be for it until I started thinking how dangerous this bill might become.

This bill, along with the NC law and any others that attempt to legalize discriminization, will be struck down by the Supreme Court in due course. It's sad that the South is still fighting the Civil War.

How is this bill any different from back in the day during segregation? Can you refuse to serve blacks because it's against your "religion"? Or does this bill only protect "Christians"?

They should write a law where all businesses refuse to serve Wtodd's children.
Then, your kids can open a business and refuse service to anyone that's not them. Surely a bank would give a loan to them based on that business plan.
Problem solved, right?
Same thing for the one black guy in town. He can open his own business and just refuse service to whites.

This is all fricking stupid. There shouldn't have to be a god damn law that says this in the first place. The United States has restricted the term "freedom" so much in the past 20 years that it's not freedom anymore.
If you want to refuse service to someone, that should be your right as a business owner. Let the fricking free market decide what to do with them. If there are enough people in an area that won't go to said business because they disagree with the discrimination being shown, then the business will fail and vise versa.
frick, people it's not that hard.
