It's not a money problem as any buyout would come from TAF, the booster organization. It's the same thing as what happened with CLM back in Nov. It would be a huge PR disaster if buy out money was paid when the university is facing budget cuts. TAF could easily pay the buyout. LSU would get ripped in the State Legislature & in the press.

Simmons was the downfall of the team. Next year after all the selfish players are gone, we can truly appreciate Johnny for his coaching talents. He'll have the Tigahs dancing again next march

The people of this board are a pretty perfect example of how Louisianians would react.
Anyone who comprehends the separation of funding understands that a buyout wouldn't cost the state a single red cent, but the vast majority just believe what they hear, assume LSU Athletics is state funded, and would throw a shite fit if any money was spent.
Then, instead of shutting down failing programs at failing schools, you'd have every retard in the state clamoring for half of the coaching salaries to go to support transgender studies at Buttfricker University in Bunkie, Louisiana, because, obviously, if the state is willing to spend that much on LSU, they should redistribute the wealth.
TL;DR version: sec ranters love Bernie Sanders

It's the best way for him to push his agenda. Even the most idiotic of LA residents understand how corrupt and seedy the state government is so if he threatens tax increases and things like that they won't flinch.
Threaten LSU athletics, football in particular, you have the ear of most of the state.
ETA: Thought you were talking about JBE. Same goes for King though. No one is going to listen to him either, unless he threatens LSU athletics.
