Harder To Do At The Professional Level?

Having a heated debate at work because I said "An elite professional baseball player would have a better chance of being competitive in basketball or football, than an elite professional basketball or football player would of hitting competitvely at the plate in professional baseball"
He lost his mind, for the record he hates baseball and has never played at all. He thinks it is easy to hit a ball thrown by a MLB pitcher.
What are your thoughts Rant.
SEC Related because Bo Jackson played 2 sports as a professional.

Disagree but it is close. Baseball does require an unique skill set that can't be abused by being overly athletic. At the same time some of those baseball players would get destroyed playing basketball.

who cares. get back to work

You're probably right, but Prince Fielder isn't dunking on anyone.
Basically it's a dumb hypothetical and you should both get back to fricking work before I fire your asses.

Eeeeehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Take your top 10 MLB players and I can see some being somewhat competent at football (or at least, passable enough to not completely and utterly atrocious) but no chance at basketball. I mean sure they may can hit shots in the driveway but defending NBA players, making shots in a game...they wouldn't stand a chance.
Take your top NBA and NFL players and they almost assuredly wouldn't even come remotely close to hitting top MLB pitching, but nothing tells me they coudln't be competent in the field or on the basepath.
There's a lot of variables at work here man.

What did Michael Jordan say about the topic?

hitting a baseball is the hardest thing to do in professional sports imo. someone without baseball experience would have no chance of hitting a major league pitcher, at all. an elite athlete in pro baseball, someone with speed, would have a better chance to be somewhat competitive on a football field at certain positions. Someone like ANdrew McCutchen. Basketball is a tough one because the majority of baseball players are too short to be competitive in the NBA and being able to score on an NBA player takes a more unique skill set than just being able to shoot a basketball.

I have had a similar debate with a friend (former college soccer player), that soccer players could compete at the top level in other sports because of their athleticism and top physical conditioning. He never played any other sports, and he flat out sucks at basketball or anything to do with hand eye coordination.
That being said, look at how many great baseball players never even sniff the major leagues. Baseball is hard as hell, so just because you are an elite athlete doesn't mean you can play baseball.
Ken Griffey Jr is a good example of this. He was drafted out of high school, but was also recruited heavily as a football prospect.

I would agree with the op if he was just talking about football but basketball would be very difficult for a vast majority of the MLB. Not saying that NBA players would have success hitting a pitch either.

While the skill needed to hit a baseball is great. The skill needed to throw a ball in a hoop with the best in the world defending you is nearly as great. It takes more than great athleticism to overcome the necessary skill level in basketball.
MLB to the NFL is a different discussion. One can get by with pure atleticism in the NFL. I could see Jason Heyward as an NFL TE or maybe DE.

Pretty sure Michael Jordan already proved your point for you.
Greatest Basketball player ever = .202 batting average in AA

Michael Jordan was also a very good baseball player growing up. Elite athleticism isn't enough to even sniff a fastball from a MLB pitcher, much less an off speed pitch or breaking ball.
