Why can't Auburn maintain success.

Auburn has been great at times, but why can't it maintain the success it's had in recent seasons? Auburn has the talent to be successful which is why it's frustrating.

I don't think the rant is here to please people.

Too many programs around us with more natural advantages.

I am sure this is an alt, but I don't disagree. Those questions are valid and should be answered. AU has top 10 classes and should compete for the SEC title each year.

But you have Hey Day and the Fambulah, seems like that should balance out those natural advantages others have.

Competent consistent coaches?

Why did alabama play second fiddle to Auburn for 30 years until Saban arrived? It's hard to be consistently good. Even the best programs have trouble with it.

A competent AD might help with that. Jay Jacobs is in over his head.

Alabama dominated Auburn throughout the 90s. Bama was 7-3 against Auburn and won two SEC title games and a national championship. Bama had a predictable down period after Bear died and a self inflicted down period from 2000-2007. Auburn fans like to forget the 90s ever happened. Since Bear died all Auburn fans talk about is the 80s and Tub's 6 straight.

Starts with the AD and is reflected in his coaching hires.

30 years?
1983 - 1999
Alabama 9-8 series lead
Alabama 1 National Title, Auburn 0 National Title
Alabama 3 SEC Titles, Auburn 4 SEC Titles
2000 - 2007
Auburn 7-1 series lead
Alabama 0 National Titles, Auburn 0 National Titles
Alabama 0 SEC Titles, Auburn 1 SEC Title
2008 - 2015
Alabama 6-2 series lead
Alabama 4 National titles, Auburn 1 National Title
Alabama 4 SEC Titles, Auburn 2 SEC Titles
Auburn-Alabama was even from Bryant's death until the death spiral of probation started. Auburn dominated from 2000 - 2007. Alabama has dominated since 2008.

I don't think they've had a plan and instilled the foundation to sustain success. Take LSU for an example, the foundation Saban laid is still largely successful 15 years later.
LSU's success during that time isn't credited to Saban by any means but Saban's influence on it can't be denied either.

A competent AD might help with that. Jay Jacobs is in over his head.
He has fired coaches that needed to be fired, and he's hired some good one's to replace them.
I mean AU football has been in their golden age for the last 5 yrs, brought home their 1st national championship in 50+ years, and played for another under Jacobs.
He just installed a giant $15mm scoreboard for the fans. He has a plan for a huge stadium renovation to JHS that will top out over $150 million when it's complete.
I don't understand the Jay Jacobs bashing.

Too much outside influence

Starts with the AD and is reflected in his coaching hires.
When he hired Lebo & Barbee those were thought to be up and coming bball coaches at the time. He followed that up with Pearl whom I wished at the time that Bama would have hired. (I'm very please with AJ now.)
He hired one of the best softball coaches in the country and it has paid off.
He hired Sunny Galloway and most folks thought that was a homerun hire at the time.

but he hired those coaches in the first place...and gave them some stupid contracts and leverage most coaches would not get. He let Barbee coach for a year without a signed contract.

Auburn had a good run from when Tuberville was hired in '98. But in addition to the highs in 2010 in 2013, we also saw the lowest of the low in 2012. Despite what people think here, Auburn rarely has a season like that.

How does that affect the product on the field and court?
