No to interject but 2000-2009
LSU football 2 national championships
LSU baseball 2 national championships
LSU basketball 1 final four
Or 5 base national championships in 10 years 91-2000

I know in softball and, gymnastics and golf Bama has won titles in that time frame. Did UF bring any minor sport championships during theirs? That could be a tie breaker. Still having the football and hoops trophies at the same time is a heck of an achievement.

Oklahoma will probably be the first team to make it to the final four in basketball and football.
They're really good. MSU could make another FF run, but who knows.
As for the OP, I'll be homer and say UF , but Bama's run has been amazing for sure.

Florida's titles in both sports in the same school year had never been done before. Bama's current run hasn't been done since the 40's. If Bama can get a couple more NCs in the next 5-6 years, a streak like that may never be duplicated again.

Florida had over half of their 2007 roster arrested. That is simply impressive, no matter how you spin it. Bravo Gators, bravo.

It truly is amazing. Amazing that the majority of that team was born in 1986 or later, and Kentucky has never had a win over UF at any point in their entire lifetime.
Very impressive. No spin necessary.

Why does it matter? These are the biggest waste of time debates on the board. Unless car wrecks are fun for you.

Going by the post-Urban era in Florida football, I'm convinced Foley sold his soul to win those championships back in 2006-2008.

It's actually not a bad question. There is a part of me that would give up a few football titles in exchange for a dominant basketball run. But only if football was still really good. I would not take the football collapse that Florida had for a basketball run. You guys are still digging yourself out of that. FSU has overtaken you as the dominant program in your state and if you are not careful Richt and Miami might make you 3rd.

I'd rather have Florida's.

2006 - 2008 UF = 4 NCs (2 in football & 2 in bball)
Much more impressive. UF won 2 basketball titles while in a conference where basketball is notoriously average, and won 2 titles in football...a sport that they didn't start playing until 1990.

I don't mean to downplay it, but this Bama run is more impressive.
The basketball side of things isn't terribly impressive in my opinion. It's 1-2 recruiting classes. U only need a few great players to win a natty in basketball. College basketball is a shell of what it used to be. The most impressive thing about the basketball side of things was getting those players to come back to school and win the second title. That was a hell of a recruiting haul to get those guys to come back and do it again. They were a great team in an era of bad teams.
It just so happened that UF was great at football as well at the same time. 2 great coaching hires. Foley walked on water (is that the AD's name?). Even though it's arguably statistically more rare to accomplish what Florida did, I argue that continued dominance in football is more impressive. Very few coaches can survive and thrive throughout different eras of football (which is why Bear's career was so awesome). Saban won titles in the pro style era of offense. And now he has won a title in what I consider a different era. The HUNH spread era. He had to recruit tirelessly for almost a decade to make this happen.

Florida's run is an impressive stat, but Alabama's has been historic, maybe GOAT (albeit in one sport).
I guess it comes down to how much you like basketball compared to football.
