[spinoff] List of SEC-sponsored sports

There seemed to be some confusion in one of the other threads about which sports were officially sponsored by the SEC. I personally think that for the conference to award a trophy for a sport, all league members need to be in full agreement to compete in it…however, 12 of the 14 SEC members do not compete in all of the SEC's sports--and why on Earth is Vandy allowed to not compete in one-third of the sports offered by the conference?

One of the managers on our track team got a scholarship there for bowling

I would venture a guess that at least half of the schools not competing do not have veterinary schools with the tools to keep the animals in top competition shape. I know Auburn and Georgia have them, Bama and Kentucky do not. Tennessee does, but they still do not participate). Not sure about the others.

This and also Equestrian is, for lack of a better term, a "rich people sport." One doesn't really compete in this unless their family has the financial resources to not only pay for private coaching and travel to events, but in almost every case owning their own horse.

Arkansas does not have a vet school. If I'm not mistaken, a majority of our wannabe vets head to LSU.

That is true and while all SEC schools to not have an Equestrian program, all Equestrian NC's belong to SEC schools.
My point? Yeah, IDK either.

Poors need to cough up the cash to compete in this nobel sport.

Not sure why UF has never turned the club team varsity. Given the proximity to Ocala and the vet school, seems like an easy add.

this noble sport
The problem is it's not a "sport" per se. Sports require a superior athletic ability...what athletic ability does Equestrian require (besides the horse's, that is)?

A sport is something that has physical exertion in which one competes in.
You may think its all the horses, but its not like the rider uses their personal horse. They are provided by the event location

Some teams have to refer to it as ICE hockey?

Didn't know MSU had beach volleyball too!

Coming from the B12 I was surprised to learn that gymnastics was a thing. AFAIK the best at it aren't old enough to attend college, so it seems a strange sport to get fired up about. OU is the only current B12 member to have it (Mizzou and Nebraska also do).
With so many top gymnasts coming from the Houston area I think A&M could do reasonably well if we gave a damn. I don't see it happening, though.
