Jen has her work cut out trying to get him on a diet when recruits moms are feeding Bert.

Agreed.
I imagine it's hard to switch from eat everything and anything mode to start being choosy and eating way less.
Add a high stress, never stop job to the mix (and just plain getting older) and it's a recipe for what we see here. Hopefully he can get things fixed and it will definitely take his wife's help.
He could dress better on the sidelines but I'm thinking he doesn't care much.

My wife always comments he would look much better if he shaved.
I tell her he probably doesn't for the same reason as me: namely you think it hides some of your chins.

I think that's why I like him with scruff
He's not a bad looking dude when he's not so heavy.

Am I the only one who thought he looked slimmer at one point during the season?

It's hard.
I'm 39 and weigh 319 pounds currently on a 5'11" frame. Hate it. Hate myself. Hate the way I feel. Not asking for anyone's sympathy. I'm sure that I'll be made fun of and that's fine too. I'm used to it. Just need to vent and get some things out there.
Lost 70 pounds the spring of 2014 only to gain back almost 55 already. At my 70 pound weight loss I was still around 265 which is still fat. Lost steam on the motivation train. Had goals to be under 199 which I've have not seen since I graduated college. Hahaha yeah, right.
Thanksgiving and Christmas was a bender. Probably put on 15 just between those two months alone. I guess it's like being an alcoholic in that the self destructive behaviors are similar. And when you weigh 300 pounds you can't hide your problem like you can with booze in a cup. It's out there for the world to see.
So no hate on Bert from me.

I do not think anyone should make fun of you for any of that.
It is a nationwide trend that we are getting more overweight.
I hope you get the motivation back.
Just remember, every morning you get to reset the clock to zero and start again.
Everyone falls, the only important part is getting up.
Good luck!

i commend you for your nice honest post. there's definitely something to be said for that.
that's very easy to do, every year i'm gonna exercise and i start off like super woman...a few months pass and i'm sitting on the couch thinking damn i need to get up. basically once feb/march gets here i spend more time thinking about how i should be exercising than time i would need to spend actually exercising. it's a vicious cycle. and what's even worse is that i used to be athletic, so you'd think it would be second nature, nope turns out butt sitting is my true actual second nature.

If you do not mind me asking what kind of diet have you been trying.
I did Atkins when I was younger (about your age) and it worked fast but I gained it back just as fast.
I am still in bad shape as far as weight, but I have been slowly losing it this year. One of the small changes I found helps is simply drinking the suggested amount of water a day and avoiding eating after 5 PM.
Ironically, I just became mostly vegetarian and have gained a few pounds( I just cannot yet bring myself to eat enough green vegetables and am eating too many bagels)
Posted on 1/19/16 at 12:41 pm to higgs_boson
I started off that diet by just using a calorie tracker app called MyFitnessPal and was successful losing about 30 pounds doing that along with walking. Stalled and went low carb and lost 40 pounds pretty quickly.
Liked low carb but it's tough to eat that way over the long haul in life.

Look on the bright side.
If you have lost it before, you know you can do it. The trick seems to be finding a balance you can sustain.
You are still relatively young and it sounds like you know what to do.

Not going to make fun of someone who is trying to make their life better. All of us have our problems.
