No offense to Razorback fans, but I'd much rather live in Alabama than Arkansas. Or Mississippi for that matter.

Impossible to rank entire states against each other. Instead I will list cities from most that I would deem to be enjoyably liveable.

Mississippi- Oxford, Madison
Alabama- Birmingham, Mobile, Tuscaloosa
Georgia- Atlanta, Athens, St. Simons
Texas- plenty of great places to live. Austin, Dallas
Florida- Jupiter, Naples, Tallahassee, Miami if you're into that sort of thing.
Tennessee- Nashville, Chatanooga
South Carolina- Hilton Head, Charleston, Greenville
Kentucky- Don't know, lexington?
Arkansas- don't know, Jonesboro, little rock?
Missouri- St. Louis
Louisiana- New Orleans

What did I great wrong? What am I missing?

Mississippi/Louisiana/Alabama all pretty much the same. I love it
Florida last good for vacations tho
Georgia meh
South Carolina don't know much about
Texas whatever. I wouldn't want to live in a big city.
Lived in Tennessee for one semester. Awful. Freezing and having to listen to Vol fans. Almost worse that OM fans.
Kentucky I'm sure it's like Tennessee
Missouri a shite hole

Military kiddo here. I've lived or spent a considerable amount of time in pretty much all of these states and others from the west and east coast, though I currently live in Alabama and consider myself from Alabama (born in Cali, though) but spend a lot of time in Tennessee, Georgia and Mississippi, too. It's been awhile since I've been to Florida, but it's a pretty nice state, too, but I wouldn't want to live there -- I'd vacation there without a doubt. Kentucky and Tennessee kind of mesh together in my mind, because they're next to each other, but I've spent more time in Tennessee. Texas is huge, so there's enough of it to wipe out any bad portions, so that's why it's at the top of everyone's list, let's be honest. I feel like Mississippi always ends up at the bottom of the list, sadly. It isn't too bad and I have some good friends that reside there, but there's a reason it's at the bottom most of the time. At the end of the day, I like Alabama because it is one of those states where you expect absolutely NOTHING good to come out of it, but it actually surprises you if you spend enough time here. I don't know if I'd want to live here after I graduate, I want to go more places, because it's kind of in my blood now. But, at the end of the day, Alabama is forever going to be my home in my mind.
And I know it's out of the SEC, but I've lived up north, and honestly, I prefer Alabama and the entire southeast over even New York state. I hate to say it, but I'm almost tempted to say it's overrated as a whole, because everybody thinks of New York City as the epitome of New York, and there are lots of other places outside of NYC that make up the state of New York. It's okay, and there are some perks, but I wouldn't ever want to settle there.

EDIT: Left out Louisiana -- Louisiana is a state I could see myself living temporarily, but I wouldn't want to settle there. It's an interesting state. I have had some hilarious cajun experiences, though. So, again, I don't know if the culture is up my alley at all, and there are way too many LSU peeps for comfort, but come on, New Orleans is a lot of fun.
Also, Nashville and even Atlanta kids seem to pride themselves as being superior to Alabama kids, but I have to say that Tennessee and Georgia are really not that far off from Alabama, that when I'm there, I don't feel like there's much of a change, they might as well be in Alabama to me. So, the superiority complexes some of the kids have there are off-putting and annoying, but there are still a lot that are completely honest with the fact that culture wise? The southeast is pretty consistently the frickin same.

ETA: I just realized that my top 5 are the least-southern states in the SEC, and my bottom 6 are the more-southern states. I guess it makes perfect sense since the south blows.
