that AU will sink into a state of mediocrity that we've never seen before. I don't believe this year defines how good of an offensive coach he really is. He's made his fair share of mistakes, but I believe with a real threat at qb his offense is next to unstoppable. If we could find a way to field a top fifty defense with his offense clicking it's just a matter of time before we are winning another ship. Everybody jump in the posibarner water, it's good!

Well we aren't even considering firing him this year...so you get your wish I guess?

This post is more about longevity and letting him build a program, even if it costs us a couple more seasons of mediocrity.

Well I'm on your boat there but I also want to see what he does next year before making up my mind.
I think 7-8 wins next year and he stays depending on how the losses look. The people saying he needs 10 are delusional.

I agree with you and I hope we don't become too impatient at the end of Saban's reign at Alabama.

Gus wont be fired any time soon. Nor should he. Barring another season like this one, he will be here in 2017.

Firing Gus would be a mistake. I think he's still figuring out this college HC thing, and while it might take him a few years to find his groove I think but once he does I think he could be a long term coach that maintains us at a high level for many years. A lot of great coaches who were at schools for a long time took a few years find themselves, but not enough schools give coaches time these days. Everybody is scrambling trying to find a Nick Saban that will give immediate results and have you playing for a NC every year, but that's not realistic. Schools should be happy with a Mark Richt type. Had a few more things over the years bounced his way he'd be the next Bobby Bowden.

His playcalling is a bit questionable at times and he struggles in the red zone without a DT QB being able to make plays when the margin of error decreases, but he is the best coach Auburn has had in a long time. The fluctuating nature of his teams is frustrating, but his failures can mostly be explained when considering the circumstances around each bad season. 2014: 36 ppg allowed in our final 6 SEC games. 2015: Injuries to our most impactful defensive players along with Sean White, and poor play from our projected starting QB which resulted in several scheme adjustments that severely altered the coaches' anticipated style of play.
The fact remains that when he has the tools in place, Auburn is one of the best teams in the country and is difficult to stop. You can find players like Nick Marshall. If Deshaun Watson were on this team, we likely would've played in Atlanta last week. Same goes with Trevon Boykin, JT Barrett, and Dak Prescott.

Now that I'm done melting I'm off the "Gus is on the Hot Seat" shortbus
We need stability more than anything.
Well, that and a new AD

People are looking for another Saban, but the guy put together a damn machine(I just vomited)... He implemented his process and recruits like no other. He gets almost every recruit he wants, it seems, which really puts everyone else at a disadvantage out of the gate. I honestly believe that with a good read option qb, and a serviceable defense, we will beat them more than they'll beat us with Gus at the helm. Richt's firing blew my mind, I give it to Georgia, selling out and really making a push for something fresh and new to win a ship, but there's no way in hell I could've ever pulled that trigger as an AD. Especially bringing in someone who has never had the responsibilities of a HC, what a gamble, that will more than likely cost the AD his job... I mean Richt was a few breaks away from a couple of championships.

Gus is still learning how to be a HC. I still have faith in him. I have seen what his O's can do. This year was just a mess from the start. We do need to put more emphasis on recruiting the D side of the ball. I hope Gus has learned that.

Not picking on Rig but this is the reason that your wish more than likely wont happen
Auburn is too infatuated with what Alabama does to be patient.

I didn't realize there were talks to fire him this year.

Is Gus connected enough to build a program? All the support staff he brought in were basically Auburn's also rans. Fired Yox to bring in his assistant coach. Same with all the other guys. Keeping Scott Fountain was a bad sign.
We shall see see how he does with Tiny John Franklin at Qb, until he gets hurt.

Gus will turn this thing around. I am completely confident and even if it takes a few seasons, I support the guy.

I like the idea of a coach building a program...we're seeing CBP do it right now. We've been spoiled as Auburn fans that our past two coaches have gotten us to the title game within their first two seasons. This however has become the norm for college football. Coaches have a better chance to play in a NC in their first 5 seasons than anytime after that.
Gus will be in his 4th season next year, and I'm worried because our program is lacking an identity. Sure, we know the offense that we want to run, but it proved problematic this season, and our defense is about to be on it's 5th coordinator in 6 years.
Is Gus capable of building a program? That is the question in everybody's head. He's had 3 years to show progress, but the program has only regressed...

Agree. Missed on a QB this year and it just derailed everything. Early season defensive woes obviously didn't help. That still comes back to Gus, but I do give him some credit for avoiding blowouts and not losing the team.
If he can get 8 wins next season, avoid blowout losses, hopefully win a rivalry game and show improvement and much, much more sound decision making, I'll return to optimism.
Unfortunately, I think there is also a chance he wins 7-8 games with a few blowouts to rivals, with more dumbass decision making and we're still forced to keep him.
We need him to pull his head out of his arse and get back to work. Put his best players in good positions. Stop trying to convince us of his genius.
