But this brings me back to the point I have been hammering home about Mark Richt since the inception of this season, and since I joined the Bulldog nation: he is the man for the job, and the only realistic opportunity for the Georgia Bulldogs to win a national championship within the next decade.

I'd rather stumble into mediocrity then have my hopes crushed year in and year out. I don't doubt we could continue to win 8 - 10 games annually under Richt but it never fails that there is at least 1 huge let down to an inferior opponent plus all the times we can't even compete with the top teams. I think most fans are finally over it and losing to a decent, but not great Florida team the way we did to a first year coach was the final straw.

NEWS FLASH: this is not the University of Alabama, this is not Ohio State University, this is not a program with Woody Hayes, Bear Bryant, or fifteen national championships to look back on, anticipating the pinnacle of national relevance every time the leaves start to change.
Who gives a shite? Who cares about the past? We have the recruiting to compete. Why wouldn't we be elite if we had an elite coach? I don't understand.
shite article.

I may, in fact, die before the time comes at the rate we're going. And I'm 23.

You know thw world has changed when the amateur, BR-esque sit articles have swapped place with reputable authors on actual platforms in their content. Its used to be the dorks who wrote these articles who called for Richt and the media that defended Richt.

That time with Richt left in 2012. That was his chance to go out on top. He was 5 yards short with arguably the best team UGA has ever put on the field. The only other team to be able to compete talent wise with 2012 is 2007. Richt has assembled two of the best teams ever seen at UGA and he found a way to drop a 35-0 game to SCAR and a 35-14 game against UT in those years.
This main reasons that people want Richt gone is his teams are extremely inconsistent throughout the year. The only consistency Richt has is winning 9-10 meaningless games a year, dropping a couple games because of blunders or not even showing up, getting to a Florida bowl against the B1G, and almost winning something meaningful.

I almost feel sorry for all y'all who weren't around for '80-'83... I was 25 - 29 yr. old during that time, that's a lotta y'alls age now. It was fonkin' glorious to be on top of the CFB world for four years. I know I'll never see it again & wouldn't be surprised if you younger guys never do...

There are a lot of reasons one could support CMR. This, however, is not one of them. In fact the exact opposite is true.

Damn dallas...that's just hurtful..

I was 3 when we won it all..I don't remember the championship...but I do remember watching HW play..most likely in 82...my first experience I can recall at Sanford Stadium

So....you would rather be a Mississippi State fan than a UGA fan?

A decent one loss team that barely got beaten by an undefeated SEC favorite team? (LSU) I'm curious. If a one loss team is only decent, what is an undefeated team look like to you? Good? What do you have to do to become really good?

We routinely finish ranked right about where our recruiting classes are ranked. Top 10 with an occasional top 5 finish. Which elite coach do you think is coming to Georgia? I'm curious.

GA had some really good years in the early Dooley era and again while Kevin McLee and Willie McClendon were running the ball. Dooley had little imagination but the team always played hard. The defenses back then were fun to watch.

I honestly can't imagine what that's like. Being a Georgia fan has always been a very humbling experience. Other fan bases say "UGA sucks because of XY and Z." And it's just like...yep...pretty much.

Amen dallas. My kids remind me all the time how lucky we were to see it.

Kind of...CMR has as many top 10 finishes as Dooley had in 25 years and more bowl victories.
Also a better winning % and 1 less SECC if you compare their 1st 15 years (which is all you can do)

After the Florida game Mark Richt made comments stressing how close the team is to where it should be. The man is in deep denial suffering from the delusion that he is performing well.
God help the Dawgs because Mark Richt will not (said facetiously).

Don't know. There are people that make >10 times what I make and it's their job to figure that part out. But to claim there isn't a better replacement somewhere out there would be incorrect.

Lets look at the 1st 5 years of each coach since CMR hasn't won a SECC since then...
Dooley took over a program who went 3-7, 3-4-3, 4-5-1 or 14-16-4...
Richt took over a program who went 9-3, 8-4, 8-4 or 25-11...
Dooley won the SEC in year 3 & year 5...
Richt won the SEC in year 2 & year 5...

Have to stop u there buddy 2012 was not Richt best team. We sucked at stopping the run all seaaon. Not to mention we got lucky with other teams losing to be able to even have a chance at sniffing the BCS. 2005 was a better team but a injured shockely killed our chances.

I think Richt has been close enough that he has it in him to actually win one if the chips fall our way. There are coaches out there that could do better and a lot more that could do the same or worse. This season aside, I think that path has been cleared a bit by what happened this offseason. A precident was set to pay coaches more and to invest more in the program. This will give us a better shot regardless of who comes on as coach.
