I say Clowney. Bama would have won another title with him.

Clowney was the passrusher Saban never got, Allen would have fell in line with the rest of the quality safeties Bama has had.

Clowney takes games and plays off. Glad he did not come.

Until this year. This has been Saban's best pass rushing line yet.

Do pass rushers ever rack up sacks in that saban defense with the buck position or whatever? Even with Dante fowler a 3rd overall pick that position never really produced eye popping numbers under muschamp

Keenan Allen wasn't a "miss" as much as a denial. He wasn't worth the contingencies placed on his commitment (package deal etc).
What do you mean by "miss" though. Improper evaluation and recruitment has led to more "misses" than straight out being beat for a kid.

Clowney? Naw, Saban wants 100% every play.

Best one he missed is LF. Best one he got is Reggie Ragland.

As far as Clowney goes, I'm not sure where Saban puts him. Bama had a lot of negative recruiting thrown at them because Clowney was being told that they'd just make him a 300 pound 2 gapper. Now they may have made him a fulltime lineman, but as Jon Allen's work this year suggests, it would not hinder him at all as a passrusher in Saban's defense.
As far as Saban's hybrid spot goes, he has a strong emphasis on the position being able to set the edge and play the run. Even more so than as a rusher, as his logic has always been shut down the run first.
You can be a good passrusher, but you have to be a good runstopper too. Why Bama's subpackage rushers are that instead of starters...

Clowney took too many plays off. I really wanted Keenna Allen, but he wanted us to take his brother.
