Could there be an expected legal consequence to this suspension that Pinkel expects to play out? I'm just curious about the length of the suspension. If there is fire behind all the smoke, why keep him at all? It's just odd to me.
And I guess we now know what Pinkek meant when he said Lock's play would have no effect on Mauk's return. It was all about Mauk's behavior and Lock would be starting regardless.

Personally I think there's assuredly fire behind the smoke. But I also think this is one of those times where we are better off never knowing what exactly the fire is.
"Integrity of the program" may be just a soundbite that Pinkel uses, but in this case I agree with it. We are all Mizzou fans and as much as we'd like to know the juicy details of what all is going on, there's no way for *us* to know without the whole rest of the world knowing too. And the rest of the world is filled with people who are not friends of Mizzou. In this case, I think that could be damaging.
The people at Mizzou handling all this are gonna be doing their best to ensure that the program and its student athletes come out of this in the best position they possibly can. Part of doing that will be that they will only ever say it was a "violation of team rules" and will "re-evaluate later" etc. Vague stuff.
If we hear any more than that, it will be from the non-Mizzou friendly media having grabbed hold of something it can run with. And that won't be good for Mizzou at all.

legal consequences work both ways, can't just drop a kids schollie based on "hearsay of wrong/illegal doing"... lawyers have to review/sign off on everything now days..
.. and I expect GP to work on giving Mauk every benefit of the doubt he can anyway, because that's just what he does with players who have earned spots, and I, for one, don't have a problem with it.
as I said before, I would expect Pinkel to try and "prove a point" and play MM anyway even in some pretty ridiculous situations, but as of now, I also would expect Hill and Henson (and Ricker and Washington) to corner him in the office and say "uh hey boss, let's think this through.."

Cuellar back on the depth chart.

Well said. When Mubobby says he'll be less surprised if he never takes another snap than if he starts again...hats really all we need to know. I hope he gets it together. and appreciate all he did for Mizzou.

This seems like it might be a sticky situation.
The lack of news is alarming, hopefully it's HIPAA related and not damage control related.

I really want to know what Mauk did to earn a month's worth of suspension.
Based on all the hearsay, I could see not fessing up / lying to HCGP as a pretty good reason to draw a month.

Could this also now be out of HCGP's hands and in the hands of others on campus? In other words, with the length of suspension, it sure has that investigation feel to it. It may not be over even after the suspension time has expired or they may drop the gavel just before it's over and release him. At that point, I would also think that all is fair game and what ever has happened will probably come out.
Personally, I don't want to know. I still like aspects of MM as a QB even though he has stunk up the place with his play recently.
I also agree that I think he has lost his starting position. There is no way he can regain it unless unfortunate circumstances happen. Lock just seems to be a level higher than MM.

Interesting quotes from GP on MM.
"Mauk's status: Indefinitely suspended and when he returns, his name will be on the depth chart."
"Asked if he has talked to Maty, Pinkel says he doesn't talk about personnel issues. Asked if he would be the starting quarterback when he returns, Pinkel says "I'm focusing on South Carolina." He said South Carolina. I assume he meant Florida."

Good to see GP dialed in...lol
I know right?
What gets me guessing is what he said in his first quote about when MM gets back he will be on the depth chart. To me, it tells me is MM has to earn his way back to a starting role. Just how I take it. If he gets back.

I read Pinkel as saying, "I ain't gonna tell you when MM returns. You'll find out when he's listed on the depth chart."
A typical GP non-answer.

Yeah, his way of simply avoiding the question of how long the suspension is

That's what I took from it too. You'll know when you see his name on the depth chart. Now stop asking because I don't discuss personnel issues.

Mauk as a slot receiver/kick returner? Maybe he takes Murphy's role?

yup, just Gary trying to say the same thing w/ different words, credit the coach when due for not being monotonous and throwing in a "we have a system, we do what we do" at the end of it..
all that really matters and should matter to us(fans) is we have the right guy at the helm on offense, and we do, the kid, Drew, should be running the O, and he is, that's what matters. (you can all chip in for my Capt Obvious insignia)

I think that it will be very surprising if he plays another down at Mizzou.
The worst of the rumors appear to have real legs. I hope the general public doesn't ever hear the whole story. But based upon the apparent sensational nature of the story, I'm guessing it comes out.

Yikes. Is Cuellar his roommate? If so, and the worst of the rumors are true, I'm surprised he's back.
Now I'm even more curious.
