Gumps... Why is history decades old more important than history a year old?

You realize the players you are going up against, which are the most talented ever at OM, didnt play decades ago right? You realize Freeze wasnt our coach over the decades of history y'all like to quote either. If you want to talk about the past, why not discuss the past that is the most relevant, like a team made up of similar players with the same coaching staff?

Because history matters. They are Alabama. You are ole Miss.

Blue-blood thing. You wouldn't understand

You mean the 1 yr history of Bama being SEC Champs and Ole Miss not?

Have you ever heard of recency bias? It is a bias introduced into the reasoning of fans of teams that historically suck because they think that the outlier of them accidentally butt fricking their way to a win once in a blue moon means they are actually good over time and a threat over time.
Or at least that's what the wikipedia page says it is.

I just like that your "greatest victory ever!!!" melted and reformed as an Alabama SEC Championship
it just felt like tradition

in all seriousness I haven't seen Ole Miss go up against a team with a pulse yet so I have no idea what to expect of them
could be a team similar to last year, could be a team that we grind down
who knows

Ole Miss's biggest win ever? A game in early October

You realize that if Howard comes down with the ball, you would have lost again last season, right? OM fans act like they blew Bama out and are playing at home again this year.
Pretty sure most Bama fans believe it will be a tough game.

Ok. Saban and part of the coaching staff have been been at Bama since 07. Same caliber players year in and year out. 7-1 against OM.
So what would you like to discuss?

I would (biasedly) give that definition to our loss to Arkansas last year. We played without our best player, QB out, on the road, in the rain. Outside of this game being in TT, what makes last year's game an outlier? We beat you with our most talented team in a long time. If we were less talented this year, then I could see it. If we constantly lost to Bama with more talented teams than 2014 then I could see it. But if you are more talented than you have ever been and win in a normal fashion, thats not an outlier unless you can never match that level of talent again, and not only have we matched it, we have increased it.
I could see our previous history with Vandy being an example of recent bias. Franklin and Johnson beat OM 4 out of 6 years. A coaching change occurs and things are back to where they should be historically. I could see this argument for us if we lost Freeze or if Bama went from Shula to Saban, but not when the coaching staff's are the same as are most of the players.

Pay that no mind.
Next year, after having lost two in a row to Ole Miss, the same guys will break out the same old stats to justify why Bama will win.
Last year has almost nothing to do with this year.
Games played a decade ago won't factor into Saturday's result either.

I have it on good authority that they actually will. That sucks for Ole Miss. :prayerssent:

Actually, it still would be an outlier.

What does pre Freeze have to do with this? Is Bama the same program now as it was under Shula? The only history that is relevant is the past three years because thats when the coaching staffs are the same. Over that three year span, our talent has increased, while Bama's has stayed the same. We beat you with Freeze's most talented team last year. This year's is now his most talented. Unless you are saying this is Saban's most talented team then the history argument is moot.

Trying to give them the benefit of the doubt.
