I read this as the Seattle Seahawk fan club went underground.

We're all very interested in this tradition of someone standing on a sideline just in case

Thats not trolling...if you ask anyone outside the state of Texas or maybe some people who live in the south and only watch college to tell you what they associate the 12th man with they would mostly say Seattle
Cool. The 12th Man Foundation couldn't give a frick if some bluenecks grabbed a hold of our shite in the 80s when we'd been using it for fricking ever. The 12th Man Kick Off Team was one of the coolest things in college football history.

Other schools used the term even before A&M. A&M is the only one that got pissy about it (or actually took the time to copyright it).

Since before 1921?
Please provide an example.

Well, your still not nearly as loud as Seattle or Washington so have fun with meaningless titles
Posted on 8/15/15 at 12:16 pm to TeLeFaWx
Obviously they care if they're trademarking it to make it exclusive

Damn shame. More people knew it as the "12th Man" than A&M.
At least nobody will ever take "LSU, home of zero QB's" away from you guys.

Good for A&M. Seattle using it was a ripoff.

The first recorded use of the term "twelfth man" was a magazine published by the University of Minnesota in September, 1900, that referred to "the mysterious influence of the twelfth man on the team, the rooter."[1] Later, in the November 1912 edition of The Iowa Alumnus, an alumni publication of the University of Iowa (then known as State University of Iowa), E.A. McGowan described the 1903 game between Iowa and the University of Illinois. In his article, titled "The Twelfth Player" McGowan wrote: "The eleven men had done their best; but the twelfth man on the team (the loyal spirited Iowa rooter) had won the game for old S.U.I."[2]

Back to the drawing board, kid.

You said other schools used the term. A single newspaper article doesn't really prove your point. Anything from a yearbook or a school newspaper article(s) that show a constant use of the term in reference to a specific student body?
Oh, and the answer will be no.

And just so you know, this has already been argued over and over again. You aren't bringing up anything new and the courts have ruled in our favor universally. Thus the settlement with the Seahawks. They knew they would lose and didn't want to pay the attorney fees to do so. We keep winning and there isn't anything you can do about it.

this is pretty brilliant of Seattle. Pay for use for a number of years to get the saying mostly associated with the seahawks. Tell A&M to kiss your arse and cut paying them. It may not be able to be used by the actual franchise but it is in the mainstream now and wont go away. Bravo Seattle. That is how you do it.

I'm sure the 12s are pumped about this result!
