**TFWIW**
So my buddy is in Dallas and is in pretty tight with the Morris family as he's from the north Dallas area.
I never ask him about the team or if he has insider info. But out of the blue I get a text last night saying he had actually talked with Alec's fam (dad I think, he just said "fam"). QB situation was resolved when Saban and Kiffin got in a "discussion" about who should start.
"Saban wants Coker and Coop to get the reps. Kiffin wants Alec to have a chance over Coop but Saban would rather not use 3. Thinks Coop > Alec in game."
This could be total bullshite, but I thought I'd share it since even as an unconfirmed rumor I found it interesting nonetheless.

Good info. I think Morris' inability to create positive plays with his legs is what is going to keep him from playing.
Bateman is legit fast and Coker is pretty athletic too.

I don't believe Morris is out of the picture, or Barnett for that matter.

I think the Barnett ship has sailed as far as playing meaningful minutes. He lit it up early but as camp went on he started to look like a true freshman out there.

I'm just saying, there is so much unknown about how any of these guys are going to perform in live action. Obviously we hope that none of them are going to suck but who knows?

As for the two playing tonight, Kirk Herbstreit mentioned during the GameDay stage setting that it was between Coker/Bateman. I'm not sure that Morris won't play though. Well see.

Thanks for sharing nb, and that info pretty much goes with everything we have heard. Saban only started talking about 2 guys this week and he made mention of the guys having somewhat different skillsets, so maybe that also contributed to Alec being the odd man out.
Alec has the highest Football IQ out of all the guys, so having him on the sidelines alongside Kiffin in a clipboard role could help the other guys throughout the game. Regardless, so glad we will see the team in action in a few hours... RTR!!!!

Barnett is out of the picture
Cooper has a good chance but he's not as good a "game manager" as Alec
Coker is a gunslinger with that same mentality, he's a poor mans Brett Favre, like the Atlanta Falcons Favre that couldn't throw a touch pass and had horrible accuracy from inside the 30
If Coker is in there to start we will be handing it off to Henry/Drake/Harris and when he drops back in the 5 step he's tossing it 40 - 50 yds, but that can tip off what the O is gonna do........play action will be a mother though
If Bama is gonna run (or need to run) more no huddle faster O, the better QB for that BY FAR I think would be Cooper Bateman, but with the D Bama will field I don't see the game situation needing that today, unless Kiffin wants to start with it out the gate.

I hope we don't screw around. Remember last year when Kiffin was opening up Saban said he's been asking for OCs to do it for years. I hope we come out guns blazing. Defense should be elite, let's try to be elite and unstoppable on both sides. Instill fear again. Bama needs to get the mental edge back. Let em know we're not waiting around. We have talent to throw to, feed them. Feed the backs in the run game too of course, but I hope we're not conservative in the passing game. Just make sure the QBs understand not to force it. Run if you can, throw it away if you can't. Don't be afraid to use your checkdowns.

what I meant is that Favre broke guys fingers that played WR and TEs etc that stayed inside the 10 - 15 yard range because of the way he threw everything on a rope like a pitcher throwing a fastball. That is the same way Coker tosses the ball. I wasn't saying he was anywhere near as good as even Favre at Southern Miss, but he's the same style QB.

Story is true. Kiffin came out of Saban's office so mad, he was shaking.
