From 1500 to 1880 CE 10-12 million African slaves were forcibly moved to Americas. 15% died during the voyage.

41% to Brazil
5% go USA.

Despite white guilt, Africans were NOT captured by whites and brought over to be enslaved by whites. They were captured by Africans, traded for by Europeans, then brought over to the Western Hemisphere.

Average life expectancy on a Brazilian sugar plantation was 23 years.

-Slavery is a world wide phenomenon by all races.

-Slave comes from the word Slav, the white Europeans who were often enslaved through out time.

-Certain passages in the Old testament condone slavery and the new testament does not discourage it.

-Before African slaves were brought to the Americas, Africans were owned by both other Africans and Arabs.

- In the Americas blacks even owned other blacks. For example in Charleston there were 407 black Americans who owned slaves.

-28% of freed blacks owned slaves.

-Death toll of the Muslim Slave trade estimates at around 112 million.

- White Europeans were also abducted and turned into slaves by North African pirates.

-Muslims enslaved over 150 millions of Africans. Many of whom became eunuchs, or lived such a rough life that they did not often reproduce. Which is why their ancestors are no longer there.

-Emperor Charles V of the Holy Roman Empire authorized Europes involvement in slave trade in 1519.

- Britain deserves most of the credit for ending slavery. In 1810 passing a law to make slave trading a felony.

- Around 20min mark discusses US laws and slavery. Makes a case that while the wealthy owned the slaves the middle class footed the bill through taxes to patrol and control them.

- Irish slave trade: 1625 30,000 political prisoners sold as slaves to Brits in the West Indies. Whites made up of most of the early slave trade here. From 1641-1652 to 500,000 Irish were killed by the English and 300,000 sold as slaves. Irelands population fell from 1.6 million to 600,000 in a decade. Negro slaves were worth more than Irish, and thus treated better.

- Around 36 min mark makes a case that slavery isnt a race debate but a state power debate.

A really good video that focuses more on slavery within the USA. While the above puts the concept of slavery in a much broader macro view. This micro view is still very important to realize that although the USA's role has been blown up too much by revisions of history, it was still a very, very bad thing.
