That may be true, but the results will also show that you're not better off with Steele.

Ole Miss 2013?

You mean the game where Mett threw 3 INTs in the first half?

Let me guess....It was Chavis's fault

A&M only scored 21 against a team that gave up 26 points on average, bro.

Oh um, LSU dropped 31 on ULM.

So happy that Chavis is gone...LSU needed new blood.

What's the excuse for the entire 2013 team? LSU offense was balanced then and we had just as much talent as a&m does for sure if not better? Fact is he wasn't the same coach as he was when he arrived at LSU. Recruiting was trending downward and we continuously lost out on the top talent we went after. Except on offense and in the secondary? That's odd being how we are so terrible on offense? But still we got quality TEs, RBs, WRs, OL, and QBs. Since Cam has been here we have recruited very very well at QB. But the front seven was severely undersized and depth wasn't what it was when he came to LSU. This year we have some of the best front seven commits we have had since 2009.

The only excuse they'll bring up is "hurrrr durrr all talent went bye bye after 2012"

Then we'll say: if he's such a good coordinator why weren't there guys to step up?

And we'll say: if the 2013 LSU defense gets a pass for not having experience, why doesn't the 2014 offense?

Then they'll throw useless stats at us when they haven't cared to watch any game film we've told them to. It's a cycle.

That's the other issue obviously they know nothing about when you have talent the NFL throws lots of cash at them and Chavis isn't very good at stacking depth for that kind of attrition. The man doesn't get out there to recruit for that. They will learn soon enough. He might be a great DC for them I have no clue really but he wasn't for LSU anymore. Again Idk what Steele will be like on the sidelines calling plays but if LSU needs to part ways with him the next DC will have a stacked house of cards to play with. I have already seen the difference and just incase he happens to be a great DC on game days the recruits will take notice even more. That's the thing about Steels recruiting he can pitch playing time every year with a multiple defense. Chavis couldn't do that lol

Even if Steele is a horrible DC, they can just promote any of our defensive positional coaches to be the DC. That's how much coaching talent we have on defense right now. They just don't understand things like that.

You show that gif over and over again as evidence that Chavis will suck because he was at A&M, whereas that gif shows EVERYTHING WRONG WITH MARK SNYDER as a Defensive Coordinator.

Actually, it was posted to illustrate our offense... the need for balance and a running game... and how it typically benefits a defense to be able to run the ball on occasion.

You were jumping in at the last minute, so I'll cut you some slack. Cliff Notes of the last 10 pages are that aTm expects their Running Game Coordinator to bring more balance to the offense and that this will, in turn, benefit Chavis's defense at aTm by way of increasing your differential in Time of Possession, 3rd down %, etc. etc.

Chavis needs nutrisystem, a 101 on recruiting, and a better D-Line coach.

your best linebacker is a a guy who had 1 tackle as a freshmen at TCU, sat a year, and then got hurt in the first game?

at what point did you decide he was your best linebacker?

Why didn't y'all just hire a DC from internally last time if it's such a rock star staff? Why not give that Raymond guy or whoever a shot over a DC that's Nick Saban fired from that position?

What I find interesting is that there was zero love for Chavis on this board from non-LSU folks until it became troll bait.

It seems that many still either fail to realize or just wish to deny that LSU wanted Chief to stay. He left over a contractual dispute with administration. Les tried in vain to keep Chief right up to the end. He is one of the 10 best Defensive coaches of the modern era of football; a serious upgrade for aTm. However, he is not a great recruiter and he must have tremendous athletes to play the kind of defense he preferred at both LSU and UT. No hard feelings and good fortune to him, except against LSU.

What are you talking about? Chavis was nigh universally acclaimed as a fabulous DC, at least by Aggie fans. I honestly don't think you can find a single post from before Chavis came to A&M in which Aggies say he's overrated.

The point in which he had 3 tackles and 1 sack in 2 quarters of play before injuring his ankle and the alternatives were far worse.

Yes. Chavis benefitted greatly from our offensive scheme. His defensive yards per play and points per play were no where near as good as his total defensive rankings. Even in 2014 when our offense was shite, our defense was rarely on the field. If your defense is rarely on the field then their totals will always be low even if they sucked.
