A&M and Arkansas both had 5-3 post season records ....

Which program had the better baseball season overall?
Worded differently, which was the superior program this baseball season, overall, taking into account the post-season as well?
Arkansas (40-23) lost to Virginia and Miami in Omaha ... but they beat Oral Roberts, Okie State, St. Johns and #8 national seed Mizzou St x2 ... to get to Omaha.
A&M (50-14) beat TxSo, Cal x2, (also lost to Cal x1), beat Coastal Carolina before losing 2 of 3 to a very good #7 nationally-seeded TCU team in the super finals.
Which was the more accomplished program this year.
I'm not trolling, only looking for honest perspectives here to find-out what's more important, this-or-that. And this season these two programs are perfect examples of what I'm wondering about.

This year? Arkansas, they made it to Omaha

I posed the same question on TexAgs. Most people said Ark because Omaha is Omaha. A&M ended up with like 10 more wins though. I think Ark just ended up with the better draw in the postseason. The only faced OSU once and they got to host MSU. IMO playing Cal 3x and CC 1 was much more difficult than @OSU and whoever else. Then @TCU > MSU. But thats is just the luck of the draw.

I'd rather have Arkansas's year.
Through a technicality, they were able to host a Super Regional, and they made it to Omaha.

Well, part of it is this:
A&M started 25-0 and finished 25-14 down the stretch.
Arkansas started 13-13 and finished 27-10 down the stretch.
I think it is easy to say that Arkansas had the better overall season because they exceeded expectations and made Omaha. They finished fairly strong.
A&M has to be disappointed. They were ranked #1 at one time before stumbling to end their campaign short of the CWS.

The Ags would have made it to Omaha in Arkansas' position. It's silly to think that the 8 best teams are in Omaha.

Arkansas got their stuff pushed in by a weak out of conference schedule.
A&M did far more in the regular season without their 2 best pitchers.
But Omaha 2 and done is still > no Omaha

If you are one of the last 8 standing, you have the better season overall no matter what went on in the regular season.

The bottom line is pretty similar for both teams, but Arkansas did get one level deeper in the playoffs--perhaps it was due, in part, to catching a break on the super regional location, but breaks are what you make of them. Just looking at one season in a vacuum, I don't know how you couldn't pick making Omaha over coming up just short.
The one caveat to that conclusion would be that, not all Omaha season are alike. Look at a school like Texas Tech, that was basically gifted a trip to Omaha last year. They are back wallowing in mediocrity this year. I wouldn't compare their Omaha qualification last year to Arkanasas' this year (the Hogs are legit), but there are times when making it to Omaha is more a matter of luck than accomplishment.

I've found that -- and it's mostly a perspective thing, maybe conservation of energy, too -- that this is almost always more important than that.

If it was basketball you'd surely say the team that went further in the tourney right not the regular season? Well, same thing pretty much to me.

IMO, I'd say Arkansas had the better season than A&M. They got their shite together in March/April, took the series from A&M and kept going all the way to Omaha.
A&M was the horse that comes out the gates fast and then is passed in the final turn.
But, A&M has the 2015 Houston College Classic Championship. Maybe that counts for more than I'm allowing?

Well we took 2 of 3 at A&M, made Omaha when they didn't, beat the #8 national seed to get there while they lost to the #7 national seed.
Definitely the Hogs.

whoever made it to Omaha or went further in Omaha, had the better season.

One half a dozen or the other. We made it to Omaha. But, had the easier road, IMO. Now, if we had won a game or tow in Omaha it'd be a different story.

Arkansas had the better season. Hands down. They made it to Omaha and beat us 2/3 at Olsen.
