Outside of the schools that are actually good at college baseball, nobody really cares, this is not really news.
College football is mega huge, college basketball is still really big (especially the tournament), outside of that there really isn't much national attention for any other college sports.

How does the WCWS compare to the CWS so far this year?

Our baseball has sucked so long, I've lost interest in the sport altogether.

Not really. Basketball draws ratings, even women's basketball. Nobody is denying that.
Being that SC made it to the Final Four of the NCAAW Tournament, I would assume that more than just SC fans were watching (we did play NOTRE DAME, a WBB powerhouse).
SC is becoming a power in WBB and we have a great coach poised to take us to the top... But here at SOUTH CAROLINA.. Baseball is THE number 2 sport. It's our most successful sport and we spend big money on coaches and facilities.
Maybe one day Basketball will surpass baseball at SC.

What the frick are you talking about? Who the hell has said that?

NCAA Tournament is most heavily bet on (legally) sporting event on the Earth. Literally. They use the terms BILLIONS. As far as unofficial office pools, estimates are that it's far, far greater than we can peg an official dollar amount on.
To compare that to the NCAA Baseball Tournament, which has only recently gotten the type of exposure and coverage from ESPN that other sports have, is really kinda silly.
The guys in Vegas talk about betting odds as they relate to public interest and mention that the first really big NCAA Hoops action they took was in 1979 for Michigan State/Indiana State with Magic/Bird.
That was 36 years ago. So with that much time and focus dedicated to the sport versus what's been given to collegiate baseball...are you really expecting something different?
This is nothing more than statistics which present an opportunity for your confirmation bias. But I can assure you where this sport has been given a priority-LSU, MSU, South Carolina and the SEC as a whole-its been proven that interest-and profit-will flow into and out of it, respectively.
Yes, but it will never come close to basketball. If you grow up in a large city, or even the suburbs, you'll see the fanaticism around youth/AAU/high school basketball. Culturally, there are just a lot more people interested in basketball in this country.
I mean I enjoyed college baseball coverage this year, and I usually give zero fricks about college baseball, but it's growth will be measured. Nothing earth shattering.

By the way... I have no doubt in my mind that if Dawn Staley won a few titles at SC and Frank Martin can turn us into a tournament program with a few sweet sixteens or elite eights (or more) then basketball probably would surpass baseball at SC..
But it's going to take a lot of winning at the high level (in a relatively short amount of time) for SC basketball to overturn the decades of high level success of SC Baseball.

what was the competition on other networks?
or do you believe that bama beating Georgia State is the same as bama beating auburn?
competition level should be considered.

I'm not sure anyone is here advocating that there will be Earth shattering growth. But for many regions of the country that don't have major league teams, collegiate baseball-provided ESPN provides sustained increases in coverage and visibility on its platforms as it is now-will continue to fuel a growth in the sport.
As far as a comparison to AAU and Youth Leagues, man...You haven't kept up much with the rise of travel ball baseball teams have you? It costs more $ to play and doesn't get the coverage but I assure you that travel ball teams and parents with pockets that are far, far deeper than AAU Teams are spending discretionary income to get their kids noticed.
Again, nobody's saying it'll be Earth Shattering. But growth is coming and that's not in question at all. My point is that comparing the sport's exposure NOW in terms of TV ratings to NCAA Men's Tournament games isn't logical and is only an opportunity for confirmation bias of a singularly held opinion of an individual.
It isn't merited in logic and doesn't hold up to scrutiny when discussed with facts and context.

Who is your favorite college football team?

Where is the first round of the women's basketball tournament. Did the women's tournament go up against the nba finals like baseball.

Much of this can be attributed to the Catholics in big cities 2 and 3 generations ago. Inner city schools may not have had a baseball or football team but in my youth they all had a basketball team and a boxing team.Seems like in the 70's and 80's they were phasing out boxing but all kept their basketball teams.

Highest rated 1st round women's tourney game was .77 but it was up against men's tourney

People just don't care to watch a second tier college sport.

This is true, but it varies by scale. Most people don't even know who is good/bad at college baseball. Far more casual sports fans appreciate who is good/bad at college football, and thus the disparity between viewership by competition level is probably more important.

March Madness beats the NBA so this comparison doesn't work
The gap in quality between college baseball and MLB is much higher than the gap between college basketball and NBA. There will never be an Anthony Davis, Kevin Durant, Carmelo Anthony type talent in college baseball. It's one of the reasons why minor league baseball is doing so well. That's the only place you'll be able to watch a Mike Trout or Bryce Harper before they make it to the big leagues.

The MLB is really worried about their demographics, their audience is getting grayer and grayer. That can't help the CWS.
