Why do they even show te xgames on espn. That's the real question.

If you have a male child in your home that is 21 years or younger you would not have to ask this question.

I would say only parts of the South enjoy watching college baseball. Those being Louisiana, South Carolina, as well as parts of Tennessee.

This. But until recently, the X-Games never really had great ratings either. I remember that the numbers showed that Pro Bowling consistently drew better ratings than the X-Games.

Wrong

Average viewership (2014 X-Games) for four telecasts on ESPN dipped by 31 percent from last year to 450,000 viewers, according to Nielsen overnight ratings.

2014 X-Games TV Ratings

Overall, ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU combined to televise 62 games over the three rounds, reaching a total of 52,050,000 people, marking a 14 percent increase over the combined 45,517,000 people reached for the 2013 championship.

The networks’ 62 game telecasts averaged 537,000 viewers and a 0.4 US HH rating for increases of six percent (vs. 507,000 viewers) and three percent (vs. 0.3 US HH rating) over 52 game telecasts in 2013.

this is mainly b/c they moved up the XGames up several months from its normal spot to avoid the Austin heat later in the summer and also aired chunks of the XGames on LHN.

At least college baseball has an audience. Who watches the X-games?

No it doesnt. You just think its popular because you post on a niche site that has a few other crazy fans.

Who are the "more people"? Stoner high school kids who skateboard and have nothing to do during summertime?

Oh really?

To reiterate, here's a few interesting snippets from the link provided by tigers102886 about last year's college baseball coverage on ESPN:

quote:

In addition, ESPN’s 1.6 US HH rating for the final game of the college baseball season ranks as the third highest-rated baseball game – professional and college – across all cable and broadcast networks behind two of ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball matchups.

quote:

ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU’s 17 College World Series telecasts averaged 1,123,000 viewers

On X-Games ratings

quote:

Average viewership for four telecasts on ESPN dipped by 31 percent from last year to 450,000 viewers, according to Nielsen overnight ratings.

Sorry your team sucks at college baseball.

X games appeals to a broader range of fans than college baseball does. Especially the younger people. I don't know much about casual baseball watchers (I don't watch it at all), but I bet you'd get more people to casually watch an X game than a college baseball game.
