If I had to guess it is probably Florida simply because of the success over the last 20+ years and the population of the state. UGA isn't surprising either given the size of Georgia.

UGA and UF are the flagship schools in well populated states. Bama is the most successful team in the SEC, leading to more sidewalk fans. Makes sense. IDK what the frick is going on with TAMU though. 57%? That's surprising.
The UGA number makes sense when population is considered. Back in the day with Bama's trash appeal stretched far and wide, and a lot of less successful teams were televised less, I could see Alabama wearing the crown. But I don't think little rednecks in Indiana are growing up revering Alabama like they might have 20 or 30 years ago.

I don't know what to believe. I've seen StopRobot post a NYT article about sidewalkers and A&M and Auburn had the largest percentage in the SEC.

Auburn isn't at 100%? That's not what their fans will lead you to believe

I guess I dont get what a sidewalk fan is.
Was I a sidewalk fan growing up in Baton Rouge at the age of 8?

Yea i love how this always gets brought up as if its a bad thing. Yea, your brand is so good that its reaching people that didnt even attend the school! How horrible. Oh wait, thats a good thing.

IMO you aren't a sidewalk fan until your college athletic eligibility expires before you attend the school to which you cheer.

JFF had a very heavy, although temporary, impact on the aTm sidewalker debate.

I'm considered a "sidewalk" fan and I attended LSU for 2 1/2 years. Who gives a shite?

I don't make the rules.

who is making the rules?
The article states alumni, so RB wouldn't be a sidewalker of LSU? what am I missing?

I don't know. The population of Georgia is at 10.1 million, while the Alabama population is only 4.8 million. Consider those numbers and it makes more sense.
You have to remember, there is a shite ton of Bama fans in Florida/Georgia/ and parts of Tennessee etc. The part of Florida I live in which is the Panhandle it's either Florida State or Bama.

Ive explained how this article is bullshite a couple of times but gladly do it again.
1. TAMU claims 250,000 living alumni
2. A poll of adults in Texas found that 22% of Texas identify themselves as TAMU fans
3. The population of Texas is 27 million. 22% of 27 million is 6 million
4. 4% of 6 million is 250,000
Thus even if you said that every single living TAMU alumni lived in Texas only 4% of the TAMU fan base is alumni.
You can do this with Alabama and Auburn. Georgia Those are the only ones I know of but I haven't looked for any others. Basically it boils down to this. The amount of sidewalk fans is such a huge portion of every fanbase that the differences in the schools is really small.

Even with all that you have to remember that UGA only has like 275,000 living alumni. I can't find Bama's number but assume it is close to that. The amount of alumni is so small and the fanbase sizes are so huge that there is no real discernible difference. So if Bama has 40 million fans and UGA has 30 million the percent that is alumni is tiny for both schools.

What is the term for someone that attended a college but did not get a degree from that college?
