What's the point of retiring now? Saban might as well take another shot at the NFL if he's no longer happy coaching college football.

I get the distinct feeling that Saban is one of those people who isn't happy unless he's unhappy about something. He needs those grievances to keep him motivated.

Game has changed from the way it was played and coached when he was growing up and for the majority of his career.
Some coaches just don't believe in HUHN offenses and other stuff like that.
Having to deal with the Alabama fanbases expectations can be a drag as well since they demand a run at the national title every season and if they are not winning they don't give a flip about things and want to burn the place down to restart with a new regime.
Saban isn't going to be around for long, but he isn't leaving just yet.

The is no doubt he's a very intense guy in a very intense job. I could see that getting old after awhile. Even for the most driven of personalities sooner or later you want to take a step back and enjoy a well earned retirement.
He is in tremendous shape for a man his age, but a student of the game like Saban knows that great coaches tend to start to slide in their mid-sixties.
I'm not sure he wants to hang around too long like Paterno and basically be a figurehead. If he retires at the end of the season he's had a helluva run with the Tide.

If he were to actually retire at the end of the season it will leak out eventually so it wouldn't be a surprise.
I could see Steve Spurrier struggle to call it a career so I doubt it will be a "yes, I am going to retire at the end of the season" months before the season even starts. He is a guy that will make that choice throughout a season and come to comfort with a choice after a season is done.
