2008 UF. Just ridiculously stacked with playmakers on both sides of the ball.

2011 LSU if Mett had played. Easily would have beaten the 85 bears.

3-98 Tennessee

This is not to start an LSU/Bama mulligan pissing match, but on paper LSU would have been tough as hell to beat with big win over Oklahoma State. Not to mention the absurd amount of talent on the roster

wins over

Rose Bowl winner
Orange Bowl winner
National Champion...hypothetical OSU matchup, Alabama crushes whoever in the Sugar Bowl
Cotton Bowl winner
pretty sure three other teams that won bowl games too

way to remind me of 1/9/12, you dick

eta: I'm going with 2011 Alabama

Oh and since you mentioned 01 UF, 01 UT and especially 06 LSU deserve mentions.

There isn't even a question who had the best regular season. LSU 2011
Outscoring a schedule with 8 bowl teams including 3 top 3 teams to the tune of 500-123, and scoring 40 or more points 7 times.
Even though they lost the NCG, I would still put them in at least the Top 8 overall.

I would also put that 2003 LSU team at least in the Top 6 as well. They gave up 10 points per game and held #1 Oklahoma averaging 56 points to 150 total yards and 2 TD set up deep in LSU territory in the BCSNCG.
They also whipped Top 10 Georgia twice, and highly ranked Auburn, South Carolina, Ole Miss squads, and beat Alabama by 24 points on the road.

IF you have a LOSS you cannot be the greatest of anything. Anyone who includes a team with a loss is a moron.

We can discuss the one loss teams all day, but here are my thoughts on it.

in no order:
1992 Alabama (13-0)
1998 Tennessee (13-0)
2004 Auburn (13-0)
2009 Alabama (14-0)
2010 Auburn (14-0)

Alabama 2009 was not a great team. Solid team, very few stars and played a weak arse schedule. That team would lose to all of the above teams no doubt.

Auburn 2010 was a blast to watch but they gave up points and yards to errbody. If they faced a great team, they would be hard pressed to win. I will eliminate them. (Sorry Cam)

Alabama 1992 was a great defense and a shat shat offense. No way that offense scores more than 14 points on any of the above teams. Sorry.

That leaves 1998 UT and 2004 Auburn.

Push.

Hands down 2008 Florida. They would be in the GOAT team conversation with 1995 Nebraska and 2001 Miami if it wasn't for the fluke loss against Ole Miss.

LSU had a great team in 2005, may be the best coaching job Les Miles did.
