Am I the only one who thinks Eddie Jackson is not a safety?

The guy is 6ft 190lbs. He's a god damn paper lion out there. I hope Ronnie and Hootie hold him off. If he can't cut it at corner then maybe he'll only be worth seeing the field in nickel or dime. Even then I think we have better DBs for those positions.

All reports are that he's looked good. Just a guess but I'm sure Saban will put the best players on the field.

He has looked good, and he is a rangy guy. He can get to 200-205 come September. I'm not worried about his size, he has a lot of potential as a cover guy at Safety.

with all the teams doing the run spread this may be a institutional thing that will help with certain teams

Hopefully he just continues to work hard, keep a good attitude, and find a way to help out in whatever way he can. We will see the rest when the time comes.

I wouldn't know haven't seen him play it yet. Hell if FSU can put a guy that's 5'9 back there...

Our safeties haven't been exactly stellar in coverage lately. He might be just what the team needs.
BTW - Rashad Johnson - 6'0" (actually 5'11") 187lbs while at Bama.

A lot has changed since RJ.
EJ needs 25 lbs to play safety or he will get broken in half 100%

Yeah, a lot has changed. Namely, a lot more teams are running spread offenses and passing the ball.

In no way am I comparing Ed Reed to Eddie Jackson, but Ed Reed is 5'11, 205 and was the one that broke people in half. There are plenty of other similar examples.
EJ will be fine, calm down.

Rashad Johnson is 5-11 205. He's doing just fine in the NFL where playing in the box is arguably more important. Furthermore, I'd rather have a guy that could be more of a hybrid between a safety and corner, than a head hunter. Especially with where the college game is going.

I think Jackson is better suited to Safety and I hope his moving there is also an indication that our younger corners are improving dramatically. Lets not forget he was playing on a knee that was possibly 85% last season.

we just need the best players out there. Weve been get burnt with these big safties. We need a guy who can cover.

After watching Eddie Jackson struggle most of last year, I'm not as confident in personnel decisions as in the past.

Unless Jackson regains all of his speed, his only option is safety. He simply isn't fast enough to cover burners on the outside on an island anymore, if he ever was in the first place. At 6'0 or 6'1 and say 205(which he can easily get up to by the fall) I'd say that's decent size for a free safety that won't be playing in the box all that much. He is actually a decent tackler anyway, I love the move personally.

The younger guys probably didn't know the defense
