Lucky you didn't get shanked down in south knox. Jk.

But if you do the downtown thing (which I would recommend), Sweet P's BBQ just opened a restaurant near downtown and I like their bbq, personally. Also, Stock and Barrel has solid burgers (and other shite), if you're in the mood for that.

Edit: and assuming you're from Ohio, please don't stay too long.

Checked out Cumberland Ave and stopped at some Mushroom place and got some good food. Construction wasn't to bad but frick is this area hilly as hell.

Checked out the campus and that is hilly as hell and I'm young... Looked nice but lacked any defined architecture to make it standout (think LSU campus or Stanford). Neyland Stadium was a site to see and you could feel the history walking around the stadium. Looks massive from the outside but you could tell the side by the river and other areas needed renovations for the rust and such. Not the Horseshoe but it's a kick arse stadium worth watching a game it. Sucks that UT has been in a slump so long for a stadium that massive and passionate student body/fan base. I didn't understand the guy with flaming torch in hand either....

Missed a few places but will hit them up on my return trip home. Wish I had more time to see the city than just a quite drive by...

Leaving Monday....I miss my flat plains and my cold temperatures. Not this hilly hot shite but I'll be sure to pump money into the economy here with family.

The side next to the river is gonna be renovated in the next phase of renovations.

The campus buildings are kind of a patchwork because the University was occupied by both the Confederate and Union armies during The Civil War. Many of the original buildings were deemed uninhabitable or destroyed during the Battle at Fort Sanders.

I recommend you go to Market Square on your way back through. Lots of restaurants/bars.

And that guy is The Torchbearer

Hahaha, says the guy from that shithole called Mobile. I'd have a bad attitude too if I had to live there. Knoxville is better than any town in alabama.

Check out downtown grill and brewery on Gay St. Ask about a table on the front patio and to sample some of their home brews. They've got about 7 to pick from. It's on the left hand side of the picture below. Directly on Gay St.

As mentioned above check out Market Square as well. It's about 2 blocks over from the picture above. Bars, food, live music.

Personally, my favorite spot in the city is about 5 minutes outside of downtown. It's called The Bearden Beer Market. It's like a locals only beer garden with a unique California vibe going on. Eclectic crowd and a huge beer selection. Corn hole, beer pong, janga tables and it's all outside. Sublime or something laid back and chill usually on. Dog and bike friendly.

Awesome food trucks right out front. Definitely my number 1 recommendation to anyone that's younger coming to the city.

Also, the entire region is a outdoorsman's paradise.

You're full of shite. Knoxville is a fantastic city and a great place to raise a family. And this coming from somebody originally from Southern California.

Edit: Also, the mountains are a lot closer than 45 minutes if you know where to go.

Yeah. Come to find out its not as unique of a place as I though. There are several of them in different cities down here. Pizza was good.
