neither was Memphis until Cal
Memphis wasn't bad before Cal either...they'd made many Sweet 16s, an Elite 8, and a couple of Final 4s (including one Championship game) before Cal coached there...

I think Pearl is a much better tactician. I think Pearl's resume is much more impressive. Pearl lost his job because of a show cause that most think was too heavy handed. Howland lost his because he's an enormous A-hole who stopped winning big at UCLA of all places.
I didn't think Pearl was a home run, but liked that move more than this one. To clarify, I didn't think Pearl was bad either. Thought it was solid.
Wut?
Pearl has never taken a team past the elite 8. Howland has been to the final 4 three times.
He may be an A hole, but he didn't stop winning big at UCLA. The year they fired him he lost in the 1st round of the tourney, but he also won 25 games that year and the conference championship.

Hopefully, Pearl takes us to the Final Four a few times. I am optimistic.
I agree that Howland has the better record of Final Fours, but why was he fired if such a great coach? Not being an arse or obtuse. Just curious. It wasn't because he was an a-hole. If that were the case, UA wouldn't still have Saban. I think Howland to MSU is a great hire.

From what I understand, it was similar to the Stansbury/Sidney situation. Some favoritism occurred with certain players at UCLA and there were fights at practice, etc.
Plus they are rabid about basketball there and it had been several years since those final 4 runs, he didn't win a NC, and he lost in the first round of the tourney in 2013.

First Round exits at UCLA = Independence Bowls at Alabama. After two or three in a row, people are going to get restless.

Scared over a 247 update that said a coach who resigned from LSU back in June resigned last Thursday?

Ben Howland will bring a winner's mentality to the SEC. A good move by Miss. State Bulldogs.
This may have been posted already but what the frick does this mean? Are the other 13 teams just out there not giving a shite?

You need to look at both of their resumes again then retract that statement. What a maroon!
