You gotta understand. In this state, the school down south, has the "lil-brother" syndrome. Anything at all, that's Bama, they're against. They went to the legislature in the late forties, to get to play Bama. Their program was headed south. So, in essence, Bama saved API. Bless their hearts!

So you do not think bills being introduced requiring UAB to reinstate football and restructuring the BoT is not news worthy?
I only bring this up, because UAB has been in the spotlight today and this legislation was also introduced today.
And before you say you went to UAB, please do not think all former students agree with your personal opinions about the athletics program or BoT representation.
poll

-64 percent of those questioned believe UAB President Dr. Ray Watts acted improperly when ending the football program.
-52 percent of respondents believe President Watts ended the football program due to influence from the Univerity of Alabama System Board of Trustees.
-78 percent believe UAB should have its own Board of Trustees.
-86 percent believe UAB should be allowed to have a football team.

Fans of Alabama athletics that post here and read this board more than likely don't care nor have any influence in any of the decisions that are made about UAB athletics but you post this same garbage over and over like it's going to change something or Alabama fans are to blame. Why do you boogs have such a hard on for this?

Well as a fan of UA, that makes sense. For a board purporting to equally care about all the universities in the system, it does not.

So you support AUM being treated as an equal to AU then, right? Let's get them their own BOT too, since non of theirs has a degree from AUM.

The first two bills should pass
Why should the having the membership reflect where the campuses are located be passed? It is THE UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA, not Tuscaloosa Regional University. Research projects benefit the entire state, not just Tuscaloosa county. The student body draws from the entire state, as it should, since it is THE UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA.
The board should reflect the state, not the region of the University.

From Fox CAROLINA? Really? Why not post from a local source?

Set up differently, AUM students can use all facilities at Auburn, including getting Student tickets to football, Basketball, etc. Plus, AUM is not crying to move as they feel they are treated fairly, which they are. If AUM wants to leave, then I would have no problem with them leaving.
Bama fan wants UAB to stay under the wing of Bama. I worked at UAB and want them to do what is best for UAB.

More an Auburn thing than BAMA but good try. Let me know when a "Bama fan" starts one of these threads.

I'm an Alabama grad, but I would fully support allowing UAB to break away from the UA system and become "The University of Birmingham." If they could do that, I think they could eventually compete athletically with other urban schools from CUSA like Memphis and Cincinnati.

The one about restricting the committee has to be voted on by the public so I doubt that'll pass. Too many ignorant Bama fans in the state.
Hell there's probably too many ignorant Bama fan politicians in the state house and senate for them to pass there either. Also the ones from outside of Birmingham probably don't care much anyway.
All 3 of the bills are the direction UAB needs to head in though, and would be whats best for the state's largest city and employer in the long run.

Not true at all. I couldn't care less what they do ans I doubt highly that ALL AUM alums feels they are treated fair. UAB has whined form day one and I say break away. Remember however, the med school stays with us if you do. These are not 3 equal universities. The flagship is in Ttown. WHat would you REALLY say if several AUM alums said they wanted equal rep on the BOT on the Plains?? what would you REALLY say?? Are they quiet because they are truly happy or because AU has told them if they open their mouth they will find their seat vacated. Lowder wasn't above something like that and you know it.
Also, all AU fans want "whats best" for UAB?? DO you really? Do AU fans buy UAB tix??, donate to the schollie fund??, nah, they just "say" I support them.
I wish some honest AU alum would say the truth in that "I want UAB to be a force so it hurts THE university of Alabama both academically and athletically". I'd at least I'd respect you for being honest then.
