Bama basketball has had some legit shots at competing for it.
1976-only Indiana was better
1991-Maybe the best team Bama ever put on the floor
2004-Elite 8 and lost to eventual champ UCONN.
Vandy hasn't sniffed anything in eons. Neither will do it but in fantasy land Bama would do it first.

Easy answer. I'm surprised they don't already claim one. Send a letter to the AD notifying them of this, and you should have one within a year or two.

Mississippi State basketball

This thread is retarded because neither will happen in the lifetime of anyone currently on tRant.

Bama. They've had plenty of talent come through the school in the past and if they get an AD who is serious about basketball and a good coach they could build a program that has a good shot at a title.
Unless the landscape of college football changes dramatically I think Vanderbilt has too much competition in the SEC to overcome to the degree that they pull out a Natty.

This is a Mensa question.
This is infinite number of zeros type question.
Like a Mississippi school winning the SEC in football.
You simply have to be able to conceptualize infinite possibilities. The difficulty is in trying to put things of such overwhelmingly unlikeliness into an order of probability.
My best attempt would be (in order from most likely to least likely):
1. Alabama accidentally hiring a great bball coach and winning a national championship.
2. A monkey banging on a piano for an infinite amount of time and eventually playing Beethoven.
3. Vanderbilt winning a football NC.
4. A monkey banging on a piano for an infinite amount of time, and the piano morphing into an electric guitar and the monkey playing "Purple Haze".
5. Ole Miss or MS State winning a championship in a major sport in anything, ever.

Vanderbilt has a couple of selections from the early 20s in the records book. They just need to pull a Bama or Tennessee and claim them.

Alabama basketball or Vanderbilt football

lol. i would have to say alabama basketball would have a better shot at winning a nc than vandy has at even winning an sec title in fb. just my opinion. vandy has major disadvantages in athletics (football especially) and thats just how it is and always will be. im not being a dick thats just a fact. in all honesty...neither will happen in my lifetime.

Patton....little off your topic, but man I would love to see Coach Saban at Vanderbilt for a 4-5 year period. That would be awesome. Vanderbilt would not know what hit them with everyone in the SEC hating their guts.....lol

What about being SEC West Co-Champions?
Rumor has it they give out banners to hang in the stadium for that...

Despite the intense rivalry between us, I think we have found something to agree on.

1960 for Ole Miss in football at least.
