I don't think that Alabama should have hired Anthony Grant to begin with.

Yep because Grant didn't get one player that was wanted by Pearl in the early signing period. The state is also going to have several highly regarded prospects over the next 2 or 3 years and there was zero chance any of those players would have gone to Alabama with Pearl at Auburn and Grant at Alabama

It was part of it, empty seats and an average record played a bigger part.

Alabama has always been serious about basketball. Grant was considered by many experts to be a home run hire for Bama at the time. Look what they paid hima and his buyout. Unfortunately it didn't work out.
Even when Gottfried was coach he was one of the higher paid coaches in the league. To think this upcoming hire proves how serious Alabama is about basketball is rather ignorant.
As to the original question, Pearl probably had a small factor in the decision. A lot of folks wanted Grant fired after last season though, so I think Grant was the biggest factor.

Anthony Grant got Anthony Grant fired. If anything, Pearl/Auburn and our dominance over our cross-state rival made it harder to pull the trigger.

Yes He absolutely did. Along with JH at UAB.
bummer knew they were going to be the third best basketball team in the state next year and did not like it.
Every inside source said Grant would be back as recently as last week.
Auburn wins three SEC tourney games and now he is fired.
Logic.
(no hammer will admit it though)

No, AG just didn't win enough. Don't go get another one of these basketball only school coaches again. The culture is different. All the resources go into basketball. Bama needs a coach who has won at a school from a power 5 who has won at a school that football is a major player and you understand the culture. No VCU's, St Bonaventure, ODU, etc. It just doesn't work. Not at Bama anyway.

I give props to the Bama posters who are at least saying Bruce played a small factor in the decision...I agree.
I'm laughing at the poster who said Grant dominance over Pearl made it harder to pull the trigger on him...right.

They're wrong. He had been at Bama for 6 years and made the tournament 1 time. That was 100% the reason he was fired.

The truth is—some are surprised he wasn't fired last year, and some were saying not to be surprised if he was retained another year.

Love all of these Auburn fans with the Bama inside sources. Tell us more.

Those posters are wrong. Winning 3 games in the SEC tournament isn't that impressive, especially since 2 of those 3 were MSU and Texas A&M. The bottom line is that Grant had been here 6 years and we really hadn't made any progress. We gave him plenty of time and it just wasn't working. A change needed to be made regardless of what anyone else in the conference was doing.

and keep telling yourself Pearl had anything to do with it. Typical Boog delusion.

Battle should have made the move last year. Grant's constantly kicking Auburn's arse didn't make the decision easy....the 1st thing they tell a coach is to be sure to beat your rival and he did...regularly.

I'd say losing to Florida 11 or 12 times in a row had more to do with it than anything Auburn was doing.
