Alabama Basketball At A Cross Road

I think this hire is going to be the most interesting in the SEC. Obviously football will always be king there, but there is no reason they could not at the same time field a competitive basketball program. If Alabama is truly serious about basketball, they must act now and acquire a proven winner. Once Pearl gets his recruits in, he could monopolize that state basketball wise. I honestly think Alabama currently has a better infrastructure for basketball than Auburn, but they need a real leader to utilize the resources the Capstone could offer. Pearl has shown he is capable of closing that gap. Alabama must act now and wisely if they want to be relevant.
I think Alabama has the same ceiling theoretically that a program like Tennessee has. I don't expect Tennessee to ever be perennial national title contenders. I just want a fun team that consistently makes the dance. That's all I ask for in our program and I see no reason why Alabama shouldn't have the same expectations.
Nothing like it when your school makes a run in the dance. It will be interesting to see what Alabama does from here. Ball is in their court for now.

I whole-heartedly agree with your post.

IF battle plays his cards right, he could solidify himself like Moore did with the saban hire

Great post and I completely agree. My only worry is I am not sure Bill Battle is the guy to make the right hire, hope he proves me wrong.

A team like Alabama surrounded by cities such as Birmingham, Mobile, Montgomery, Atlanta, Memphis...should never be on the outside looking in as often as they have been

UTk has to go 300 miles to get to Cincinnati where they actually LOVE basketball.
Bama has it better than UTk but somehow Memphis does not belong in that list.

Great Facilities- Coleman ????
Pay Big Bucks-Pearl makes 2.5+ Million a year
Bigger BB Fanbase- only when they are winning.

Who do they go after? I hope it's a good one and we see a renaissance of BB in the state. It's good for the state and the conference for UA to be competitive. I think AU hired the perfect coach for our situation.
Good luck UA.

Pearl would leave Auburn in a nanosecond to go to Bama. I give Pearl at the most three years at Auburn, and by then a real basketball school will offer him and he's gone. Might happen after next year.

No reason Bama can't be good in basketball, none.

No, but neither is anything to write home about. If their teams are winning, both sides support them.

I honestly hope it is either Howland or Archie Miller. I think Howland is more realistic.
Howland and Pearl battling every year would be fantastic for basketball in the state.
