Not much is as annoying as a non Southerner trying to play one on TV. Why didn't they just hire one in the first place?
My list in no particular order:
Colin Firth- Main Street
Nick Cage- con air
James Vanderbeek- varsity blues

Uh, that's possibly the greatest southern accent ever done in film. Nick Cage sounded more southern than any southerner does.

He came to my hometown to learn that accent. He met some guy at the Waffle House while he was here. They went and shot some fireworks.

People down voting my post have no culture or true understanding of acting.

That one little kid on the bus in Forrest Gump. "Can't sit here". He sounds fricking British.

Lucas Black plays the character of Christopher LaSalle in NCIS: New Orleans. His accent is very thick. I know he was born in Decatur, Alabama but is his accent representative of North Alabama?

This is what I don't get. They spend all that time shadowing somebody and they still sound terrible. Why not just go with it off the bat, it's gonna sound terrible regardless.

What accent was Babs in Animal House trying to portray?
That was pretty bad.

Anybody that is not from the south sucks at the accent. There's actually many many accents but they always pick the Texas twang.

There are two southern accents on film: Redneck or Scarlett O'Hara. Nothing in between. It's bizarre.

There are some pretty awful versions of southern accents on that show. My favorite, though, was Dewey Crowe's. Damon Harriman, from Australia of all places, played the character.
The absolute worst southern accent on TV right now is that of Rick Grimes on The Walking Dead, played by Andrew Lincoln (real name Andrew James Clutterbuck). He's English. I grit my teeth sometimes when he's talking. It's difficult to listen to him.

Hers is actually pretty good most of the time, but then she overdoes it and loses me. Winona's is really good, tho.
