The field goal never should have happened in the first place. JPW scrambled to the right from the 35 or so and either scored or got inside the 5. One of the refs threw a flag on Andre Smith, our LT, for holding. Whatever happened on the left side was completely away from the play.

Classic SEC Football games that don't get discussed enough
The score was 21-20. Call timeout, kick field goal, game over. There is no difference between 26-21 and 23-21. The play worked but was completely unnecessary. It was extremely poor clock management because there was no reason to take the risk of a throw to the end zone.
WHAT risk ?????????
With SEVENTEEN SECONDS left ???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Why not throw at least one pass to the end zone before kicking the FG?
That's exactly what the coaches decided. What they did NOT anticipate is it taking so long for Flynn to snap the ball.
He made the perfect throw - there was no way it was going to be intercepted because he threw it over the outside shoulder of the receiver.
The clock read "0:04" when Byrd caught the ball. The officials and clock operator put THREE SECONDS back on the clock, and LSU kicked off to Auburn.
Had the ball been incomplete, there was STILL plenty of time for a FG, even WITH the delayed snap of the ball.

2007 Tennessee @ Vanderbilt
Tennessee put up 16 in the 4th to take the lead. Vandy's kicker then hits the upright with seconds left to play. Had Tennessee lost then UGA would have played LSU in the SECCG for a shot at a national championship against Ohio State

2004 Tennessee-Florida was one of the best games I've ever seen. Ending was the greatest!
T'was a good 'un. The '06 LSU-UT game in Knoxville was a frickin' pressure cooker as well.

Tennessee and LSU always seem to have a war. Other than the skull dragging LSU gave Dooley in knoxvillle every game seems to be highly competitive.

Exactly. It was all overblown because of a slow official and over-reacting TV announcers. I still have the photo of Byrd sitting on the ground in the end zone with the ball and the clock on 4 seconds. No access to it at the moment but it is a fact.

5OT including a 4th and 19 conversion in the 3rd OT by the Casey Clausen and the Vols. Say what you want about him, but that guy was something like 9-1 on the road in the SEC, that's tough. #roadwarrior
Casey was one of the toughest sons of bitches I've ever seen at QB, he took a beating and kept coming back for more.

I admit, Clausen was hampered by having to drag his enormous balls on every play. A gutsy QB who hated to lose.

First home game for me. I specifically remember a QB run from Jamarcus Russel and thinking "thats a big dude"

Mid-late 90's alabama playing in tiger stadium. Down 16-7 late in the game. Score, recover onside kick, win the game. Streak in tiger stadium extended to 30+ years
Might have been the very next year in alabama, or maybe the year before. Booty scrambles right inside the 5 yard line to go in for the winning score, leaps, and Marvin Constant stones him at the goal line. May have even been as time expired. That play ended Constant's promising career, but he sealed an Alabama victory.

Ole Miss/LSU 1998
Rebs won 37-31 in overtime which included the OM receiver catching the ball at the one, fumbling it, and recovering in the endzone for what would be the winning score. On 4th and goal for LSU, a pass to the endzone was broken up to seal the win.

I remember watching that at Baileys in downtown Nashville. Couldn't believe we pulled it off. We didn't deserve to win that game

Didn't Tennessee have another crazy ending to a game that year? I think it was against Kentucky in a 2 or 3 overtime game

No specifics right now because I'm drunk but some of those 90s UF/UT games were crazy
